On Thursday, our volunteers handed out 35 servings of teriyaki chicken over rice & broccoli to our unhoused neighbors! (Nothing clever to add here. Just maxing out the character limit) We rely on donations to feed people Venmo- pdxfeedthestreets Cashapp- FTSPortland

Monolingualism is bad for us and for society for reasons like this. We see our own view on language (and therefor pronouns, gender, etc) as the only view. We are only ever with those who speak the same language as us. It prevents us from having empathy for the effort it takes to learn a language.

Someday we're going to have a conversation about how many of the latino people being deprted are indigenous to the americas, and how their indigeneity is the marker that people profile and look for when they're looking for "mexicans".

This story is out of Salem, Oregon, Thursday January 29th. a woman was pulled out of her car by her arm, tearing her rotator cuff and bruising several ribs. ICE went through her things until they found a passport and then just left. Leaving her injured and with no way to leave the scene.

Really interesting american-iranian demonstration happening right now in downtown Portland at Pioneer Square. They are raising awareness about the "42,000 people who have been killed in Iran within the past 48 hours." its drawing a lot of attention from shoppers/tourists

this is what freaks me out MOST about the dem party right now, is they're leaning into their national identity as a response to right-wing fascism, instead of unifying the party around solidarity among afflicted groups

You can't proactively change who you are unless you know who you are, and you can't really know who you are unless you have an understanding of how you arrived at the current moment. Many Americans dispute these claims, and find "learning how you got here" to be a drag and/or boring.

theres people who disagree with welfare, who will vote against it everytime, and when the need arises they still use foodstamps. Do i think those people deserve to get welfare even though they fundamentally disagree with it? Yes! I do! Caring about the public good shouldnt be controversial

Someday we're going to talk about how so many children had their culture stolen from them because their parents were intimidated and brutalized by systems that demanded that they assimilate into English-only whiteness and how reclaiming languages is a critical act of resistance to white homogeneity.

Puerto Ricans are in a fucked up catch 22 where they are forcibly Americanized, but have little to no say in representation, and they cant exactly succeed from the US, but those living on the mainland are probably in fear of being taken by ICE based on their skin color.

One of my dear friends who passed away a decade ago used to say, as a go-to phrase, "I believe in your victory" and I have continued to say that because I miss him and because it always gave me with so much faith and confidence in myself and in solidarity Anyway, in honor of him, its my gift to you

sorry maybe this is an unnecessary level of stating the obvious, but sometimes when someone says they don’t think puerto ricans are “american,” it isn’t an opportunity to do a little civics gotcha & tell them about the insular cases. they just mean they think real americans are white.

A few hundred people arrived to the Portland ICE facility a few hours ago, marching in remembrance of all killed at the hands of ICE. The energy was high, for over an hour the feds would randomly shoot pepper balls. And then they came out and heavily gassed
