Nice paper by Lima et al. on the origins of the endemic birds of the Caatinga dry forests. They have been arriving since 12 million years ago, mostly from nearby dry/open areas (niche conservatism!). This cool spider is Galianoella leucostigma, the only member of Gallieniellidae in America—all other spiders in the family live in southern Africa and Madagascar. This species only eats ants, and its name honors María Elena Galiano, one of the first and most important arachnologists in Argentina.
