Have you ever felt the need for this??? Especially for morning conferences when you are post-duty or after-lunch lectures in classes? #healthXPH that's what comes to mind when I think of sleep deprivation.

When people complain of difficulty losing weight, getting enough sleep is the first thing you need to address. #healthXPH Sleep hygiene is self-care. Easier said than done, but at least start with accepting this fact.

APMC has started limiting duty schedules to maximum of 12 hours per day. This is a good place to start - acknowledging the limits of human physiology. Even physicians need to rest everyday to maintain patient safety and satisfaction. #healthXPH sleep deprivation leads to medical errors.

Keep your bedroom dark, quiet, and cool. Use blackout curtains to block out light and noise. Use your bed only for sleep and sex. #HealthXPH One needs a conducive environment to have good quality sleep.

At my age, I have to limit my coffee to mornings. If I drink coffee after lunch, I find it difficult to go to sleep at night. #HealthXPH

Tips: Wind down for at least 30 minutes before bed by avoiding stimulating activities. Turn off electronic devices since blue light can disrupt sleep. Engage in calming activities like listening to calming music. #HealthXPH it's better to have a night time routine.

The trick here is TIMING. One should not appear vindictive& impulsive. The feedback should be given thru proper channels. The person most responsible for correcting the employee would be the direct supervisor. Report to that person. make them accountable for their responsibilities. #HealthXPH

For those who are not comfortable with confrontations, there should be patient advocates who can accept feedback from the patients or employees anonymously. #HealthXPH

There's a sense of brotherhood or "pakikisama" in the workplace such that mistakes are at first privately corrected if at all. Telling on a fellow worker is the last resort. #HealthXPH This kind of culture frowns on speaking up about errors or safety concerns.

My closing thoughts would be that these "doktor para sa bayan" should be supported however we can, because they are the future public health servants who will lead our country and improve the system, take care of the patients when we no longer can. They are our hope!

I think the students should have an enablers' fund to provide them opportunities to participate in students conferences and national/international research and academic competitions. A solidarity drive would provide them stability so that they need only to study and develop their skills. #healthXPH
