I recently read through a bunch of AI learning activities in my area (intro physics) and that really encapsulates what I thought of them: "things you COULD do with AI", like the author was looking for ways to shove it in. Not things that AI is needed for, or even better than existing methods for...

AI is undeniably useful in completing school-related artifacts more quickly and efficiently, but that utility is sometimes the opposite of learning. This is why I believe we need to focus at the level of experience and only then ask how AI might be used inside that experience.

I'm not necessarily an advocate of banning AI and reject the notion that those who don't see a utility for it are "ignoring" it. In my course, I would attempt to clearly express why AI does not have significant utility to the kind of learning I want students to experience.

Andrea Reyes Elizondo @altibel.bsky.social and I have responded to a blog, recently published on @leidenmadtrics.bsky.social, which argued that using AI responsibly in research means being transparent about it. We object that supposed transparency obscures more fundamental ethical questions.

T3. I miss the early days of Twitter talaga. Because I speak at conferences a lot, now it's meeting those who come up to you after a talk. Attending meetings and sending an email afterwards if another person's thoughts resonates with yours. #healthxph

In my career, I am usually the youngest in the group... but nowadays I find that I am getting to be the more senior in the group... the values, the culture and the work ethics are different, there's always something new to learn everyday. #HealthXPH

T2. I learned from those older than me how to navigate one's career as it changes. Those younger challenge me to think differently. When they ask me questions, I sometimes gain insight in my own answers. Why did I answer that way? #healthxph

T1. I'm a fan of connectivist learning theory, from George Siemens and Stephen Downes. Knowledge exist in different sources, are networked and connected so learning happens. #HealthXPh

I am of the thought that every person we meet is always going to teach us something… or lead us to learn something important. Great example, Ma’am! #healthxph

T1. When I was starting my career in my hometown years ago, I had a cousin who was already an established OB-GYN and she told her colleagues about me… eventually, my practice grew and having her inform people first made it easier for me to build. Her presence also inspired my standards #healthxph

Just like #HealthXPH. Imagine being able to organize a national Healthcare Social Media Summit without a single face to face meeting! Connections allow you to widen your reach, broaden your horizon and utilize resources that were otherwise out of reach.

T1. One of the most concrete examples I’ve had with connections is being connected to #healthxph, via an invitation by Doc Remo @bonedocph.bsky.social to speak on #NarrativeMedicine back in 2016. Before that, we were part of an online blogging group. I learned a lot from both opportunities!

T1 Connections let you exchange ideas. Anyone can learn from anyone else. The trick is to listen and be open-minded to learn from others' successes and avoid falling into the same traps they did. #HealthXPh

T1. We need interdisciplinary teams to solve problems. I have learned so much connecting with others not in medicine or physicians in a different field. Some of them I have worked with on projects, some I have published studies with, some invite me to conferences. #healthxph

The trick here is TIMING. One should not appear vindictive& impulsive. The feedback should be given thru proper channels. The person most responsible for correcting the employee would be the direct supervisor. Report to that person. make them accountable for their responsibilities. #HealthXPH

Largely it will depend on how bringing up a patient safety issue is done. Is there a platform or meeting where it is done regularly so it’s normalized? Also the language used so as not to blame or be disrespectful. #healthxph

T3. The powers that be hopefully will appreciate it when someone speaks up and not take it personally. Ideally, speaking up is not seen as disrespect but I guess that depends on the leader. #healthxph

T2. two settings: In a group, there should be an avenue to say things anonymously, like in an online bulletin board or an open forum. Oftentimes, it can fairly common to have ideas or comments shot down because someone in the group opposes the contributor, impeding real honest feedback. #healthxph

Would it be possible to develop a "no blame" culture? Where HCW can openly admit their mistakes to find solutions or bettrr ways of doing things? #HealthXPH there has to be strong political will from the top to ensure this.

T1. Talk travels fast, and if your ideas are dissenting, or controversial, people might peg you to be a nuisance or menace, rather than an agent of change (for the better). I wouldn’t want to be misconstrued as an irreverent or disrespectful person because of ideas. #healthxph

T2. I think it’s hard when there are new team members because they are observing to see what the culture is like. Those who have bee around long enough may have fatigue? “It’s always been this way.” #healthxph

T2. Should be two way - from top to bottom and vice versa . Organizational level is the ideal but its very hard to implement unless the one on top pushes for it. #Healthxph

T2. Psychological safety means one can speak up without fear of being shamed or losing status or having a career misstep. #healthxph
