So I know about ARKYVR. What other RPGs are there where recording/media creation are explicitly part of the game? Like, I get you can play a journalist in Call of Cthulhu and make up that part of your job, but it isn't part of the game. It doesn't have its own mechanics and it isn't centred.

So many people have entirely false perceptions of the breadth of what RPGs are. Whether that is an inaccurate idea of DnD, an *accurate* idea of DnD, an understanding Pathfinder exists too, or also that GURPS exists. Most people I have introduced to RPGs are surprised by them.

It's a shame because hiring a diverse and skilled bunch of people and paying them well for their time seems like a cool idea. But I am so not on board with anything that elevates GMing into a mysterious art form beyond the ken of mere mortals that takes wads of cash or years of esoteric study.

I saw a comment in this thread - which Grant responded to perfectly - about how we shouldn't criticize this since some of the teachers are POC. Sure, don't rock POCs for their hustle. But it doesn't change the fact that this does NOT help our industry or marginalized workers as a whole very much.

The number of folks publicly cancelling GenCon attendance is growing, and the number quietly not attending is growing more. I can't yet decide if it'll have a big enough impact to make the con feel different overall, but the number of people who will notice as con-goers must be going up too.

My greatest contribution to the team was failing every single roll, tripping devil balls, throwing a bomb in a small chamber and rolling a nat 1, and ultimately being dissolved in demonic acid. Fun was had.

My Masks of Nyarlathotep blog was mostly well received but foundered due to my players jobs and quite frankly, the racism. Yesterday when I said I was planning to run Tomb of the Serpent Kings with my group and discuss each lesson with them openly as we went someone said I should blog about it.

I spoke with @iammattsanders.bsky.social about RRD's decision to not attend this year's Gen Con, which he says is primarily based on the safety of the team. RRD are one of the most prominant names to drop their attendance, and one of the most vocal about it.

I own a few dice bags but I am very pleased with this giant new one made out of actual tapestry. Yeeaaahhhh.

I've been sorting out my smaller format RPG stuff into sections. - systems/games - games with adventures - adventures - random shit It's made me realise I am much more excited by adventures than systems. The stuff I'm stoked about digging pit from here is 75% adventures, maybe more.

Our little map grows. I've also dug out the Perilous Wilds to use in generating some encounters and I'll be peppering my copies of Knock with post it's for little places we might delve into. It's fun, and really responsive to player reactions. They very much decided what's in the hex they're on.

What an adorable little map we have so far. We also have a hireling who we've learnt far more about than any of the folks who hired him. That's Daddy there. He's 15. We named him before we rolled his age.

Tonight I begin a game of Cairn using the Hexcrawl Toolkit. Very excited. I can see myself dusting off The Perilous Wilds too. Feels like the same space.

Finished Another Bug Hunt tonight. We had a great fucking time and this adventure really shows how much adventure writing matters over system. What's interesting, maybe both good and bad, is we're all fairly happy to leave it and play something else now. We did talk about Mothership next steps.

Crucial reading, really. The TTRPG industry has the same issues as the videogames industry: a whole lot of hobbyists willing to self-exploit for a chance to do something they love. It's simply not tenable to keep working this way and harms all of us, whether you're breaking in or publisher-side.

I smell freelance word rate discourse coming. Let's do some basic maths on full time writing work. Take: the number of days you write as that day's work as X the average number of words you output on those days as Y the average word rate you get paid as Z X * Y * Z = your annual earnings
