This is a statistical impossibility for most authors to achieve. By and large, we love the industry and of course the work itself, but the stats are daunting. To loosely quote Richard Swan, each new book deal just feels like a stay of execution, not a solid foothold for a career.

Good to see this being discussed! Many indies ARE now on Itch, Kobo, etc, but many others are locked into KU. The 90 day exclusivity lock is something to bear in mind. It can’t always be FAST. It’s a hard road to navigate & indies are doing their best to stay afloat while following the readers.

Four years ago today I released my first self-published book, The Broken Heart of Arelium. Now I've written eight books, plus a slew of short stories and audiobooks. I should be tired. Or satiated, at least. I am not.

Look, I get being sad about book sales. I’ve had months of nothing, months of only one sale. I’ve BEEN THERE. But tearing down fellow authors, belittling their wins or redirecting their success towards a bitterness you’re now publicly disseminating is not in any way going to *help* your sales.
