Every day the cruel two-child benefit cap pushes an additional 109 children into poverty. Keeping it is a political choice. Scrapping it would lift 300,000 kids out of poverty overnight. The government needs to scrap the cap immediately & give every child the chance to thrive.

I’m grateful to have had limited contact with adult social services before this week. Unreal level of gatekeeping of support for a disabled and vulnerable young adult. This falls short of the bare minimum public service that should exist.

It doesn’t matter how you feel about the monarchy, spending this much public money when children are waking up and going to sleep hungry in this country is disgraceful.

Food banks and @trusselluk.bsky.social are doing important work and they are to be applauded. The key takeaway from ‘millions of food parcels’ should not be congratulatory; we should be outraged by the total failure of our society that means people are reliant on food banks to survive.

Living in hardship or poverty makes access to good public services all the more important. Do Labour have any plans to reverse the cuts to local gov funding?

We need to talk about how it’s intrinsically linked to bearing the burden of most of the mental & physical load at home; caring for children or relatives, life admin, housework, children’s social secretary & educational liaison etc. 42 days “unpaid” at work, 365 chronically undervalued by society 🙃

Today is Equal Pay Day, when women effectively stop being paid compared to their male colleagues. We would require all large and medium-size companies to carry out equal pay audits and redress any inequality uncovered. Equal pay for equal work should not be too much to ask.

I used to wonder why we needed a review every 10 years to tell us there are a massive structural health inequalities in this country and that to solve them we need to make the country more equal, not encourage people to eat less, take more walks etc, but now I see we need one of these every 5 years!

This number should be zero. There is no morally justifiable reason any child should have to endure living in poverty.

Frustrated for Ware residents faced with loss of already limited natural sunlight and privacy because of greedy developers trying to add floors to an existing (poorly insulated) block of flats. This is the third time they are having to object. I fear they will give up before the developer does.

When I say this is the “safe place” I don’t mean safe from discourse, difference in opinions, occasional fat jokes, and tom foolery.. I mean it’s safe from propaganda programmed bots, harmful rage bait, reckless unchecked racist rhetoric and unsolicited temu ads

I complain frequently about women being told we can have it all. We have been sold a lie; I am not convinced it is possible to have a career, raise kids, have hobbies, and be involved in the community, without making yourself a martyr to motherhood and getting a lot of family/paid help.

If it wasn’t already obvious that care for vulnerable children should not be for-profit, I hope it is clear now.
