‘That’s naughty’, said the pedestrian crossing the road as I pushed off from the 🚦. While the light for motor vehicles was still red, the cyclist light had turned green. I had to brake to avoid them, as they crossed with their light still red. Yes, that is naughty.

I (co)-wrote a book! The catalogue for the Piranesi Print Project I co-curated at the British School at Rome has been published, and I am very proud of it! The research for this project was so interesting, and there’s still work to do! Thank you to everyone who was involved, my heart is full ❤️

This studentship is only possible because of the generosity of the late Prof. Em. Jane F. Gardner, world leading expert in Roman law, women, and the family among many other things, who passed away in 2023. You can read about the department's memorial for her here:

I only realised 4 hours after arriving at the Senate House that I had 1) left my lights on my bike and 2) left the lights on!! Some kind soul must have switched them off for me, so I can cycle safely home this evening.

I’m perfectly fine with most of the historical inaccuracies in Ridley Scott films, but cutting ancient men kissing seems like the biggest inaccuracy of all.

If you have just arrived on BlueSky it is conventional to post a photograph of your animal (especially if your animal is a cat). This helps to maintain an appropriate Nazi : cat pics ratio (i.e. with v. few of the former & lots of the latter) which is key to the flourishing of social media networks.
