This was the Averil Cameron I knew, telling it like it is, here on social media. She was one of the least pretentious and straightforward academics I knew, which is also how she wrote, making her work easily engaging as well as fascinating

RIP Dame Averil Cameron. She was an epitome of the best of the grand dames of our field, in that she was generous, brilliant, incisive, and did not suffer fools.

The Roman mosaic in Nennig, Germany, is one of the largest of Roman mosaic art of the 2nd and 3rd century. North of the Alps, this mosaic is one of the very few that remained at their original site. A local farmer discovered it in 1852 by accident. The mosaic was in a Roman villa. #MosaicMonday
