Tonight in #DND, the party navigates a brewing civil war in one of Neverwinter's thieves' guilds, while searching for the fugitive Varram the White, and two copies of the white dragon mask - one real, and one fake - in a completely-off-the-rails Tyranny of Dragons.

I was introduced through the Red Box, but AD&D 2e really defined my formative years playing and Dungeon Mastering. 2E and 3E/3.5 were both distinct eras.

Tyranny of Dragons is a crazy, messy campaign (which is understandable given its production), and requires near total reworking to run. But man, in that reworking, some of my favorite DMing has happened. It is not a very good campaign as written, but it has become one of the best.

Lady Strange is planning to run a D&D Ghosts of Saltmarsh campaign and asked for "piratey characters". My guy? A seagull aarocockra named Trash.

I grew up with XP, but I really like Milestones for level advancement. As someone who pays a lot of attention to pacing and narrative flow, I like being able to make sure the characters are where they need to be while still having them feel like they earned their progress.

My first DM when I was 10 was like this. He tracked *everything*.

No matter how much you know about something, you will encounter people who know things you don't, and I think that's great.

The ogre guards kept calling their boss "Flatfinger" all session and when the players realized the miniature has a flat finger (printing error), they went crazy. #D&D

Dungeons and Dragons (2000) was made in a Hollywood ecosystem that didn't give a rat's ass for staying true to the source material so you got all these Power Rangers villains-ass extras running around just to make the world feel vaguely "fantasy."

Set up for D&D and all I can see is this one patch of wall that didn't get highlighted. Like the missing scale on Smaug's belly. At least it's facing me and not the party.

Tomorrow is our finale session for Hoard of the Dragon Queen. I'm tempted to let them have Skyreach as a reward for putting up with all the travelling.

Tapping the sign again: It is entirely reasonable to continue be a fan of Dungeons & Dragons AND to want to hold the management and parent company responsible for bad decisions, particularly when they are adverse to consumers and employees. This all or nothing shit is tired.

I hate D&D 4E. I hate the setting, I hate why the setting is what it is, I hate the mechanics, I hate why the mechanics are what they are. To me, it is a stain on the legacy of D&D. And yet, I don't make hating it my entire personality. I don't bomb into comments where someone says something nice.

One might argue that obsessing over children playing makebelieve and trying to write laws about it is "non-human behavior".

With a little help from Lennithon and Iymrith, the party sees the error of their Tiamat raising ways in the ruins of Ascore.
