A long time ago I experimented with one-page encounters and adventure hooks for OD&D, mainly White Box Fantastic Medieval Adventure Game. I never did anything with them, so here they are for you in JPEG format. They're D&D encounters I designed and ran in the 1980s (the ones I remember, anyway).

I got a few hours into ALIENS Dark Descent but haven't picked it up for a while. I like it; the change of pace and gameplay style was quite refreshing. I like squad-based games and I was making notes on how it would work for a Dead Space game. Not a single protagonist but a team trying to survive.

I don't ask for much. Just a book-accurate adaptation of The War of the Worlds.

I love my Eaglemoss Nostromo model. I'm thinking of making it screen accurate, so that means adding extra vanes and attaching landing legs to it. I'm not a fan of the stand this has. It feels a little unstable so I'd like to rectify that. I'm always worried I'm going to find it broken on the floor.

One of the most terrifying scenes in ALIEN is one you don't see. The sound over the comm as Ripley runs through the corridor is enough. It puts all kinds of images into your head that shouldn't be there. I'm always aware that Ripley ran *towards* the danger and not *away* from it in a selfless act.

I do like The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game from Decipher Inc, and I think the system itself is pretty good. Strip out the Tolkien and you'd have a pretty solid fantasy RPG. We don't need yet *another* standard trope fantasy TTRPG, though. Something would have to make it unique.

Moebius did some concept art for ALIEN - Ridley Scott was a fan of the Metal Hurlant magazine and Giraud was one of their artists - and one thing that stood out to me was his spacesuits. This helmet is similar to one Giraud drew, it's a fantastic design. It feels real and bulky and looks fantastic.

I used to love Orc Attack! on my ZX Spectrum. In the days before detailed fantasy CRPGs we had simple graphics or text adventures, so your imagination had to fill in a lot of gaps. This was one of the better games as it was had fun gameplay and could get quite exciting.

With my work for the ALIEN RPG and other big stuff that's in motion I try not to forget the two books that got me attention in the first place - 'Those Dark Places' and 'Pressure'. I wrote Those Dark Places in 2018 because I wanted a TTRPG I could run games like ALIEN, Dead Space, Moon and Outland!

Again we come back to ALIENS, and this fantastic image of the dropship being filmed as it flies over the colony. I'll always be amazed by model work and the way these effects were lit and shot sells it wonderfully.

I'm a huge fan of Team17's 'Alien Breed' revamp, so I started to put stuff together for a pitch for a TTRPG/boardgame version of it using minis and random play screenshots and concept drawings to build the map and the world.

The clear dome idea is creepy but I feel the smooth dark one is much more disturbing. While the skull idea makes you think deeper about how the creature inherits the DNA if its host - and the possibilities that hints at - the cold emotionless dome is disturbing. Still a fan of the skull idea, mind.

It's my intention to run a short TTRPG campaign set during the Horus Heresy, and it's going to be about a scout ship out looking for the Primarchs and slowly uncovering the truth behind the chaos. It's a short adventure on board the small Rogue Trader frigate 'Emperor's Mercy'.

This is a really good piece with an excellent point. Personally I'm usually more into the setting than the rules and I can make it work, but if a game mechanic really connects with the themes or sells the concept then I'm pretty much always sold.

The minis for the ALIEN RPG adventure 'Rapture Protocol' come with a booklet that adapts the rules as a skirmish miniatures game. The minis can be used beyond the adventure but you can use your own minis, too. It's an ongoing project so updates and maps are on Free League's website. Awesome idea.

So, that's the Warhammer 40K Wrath & Glory TTRPG rulebook secured. This is going to be my Christmas read while I'm on my break, and I'll look at doing something with it in 2026. I've tried using WFRP 1st edition rules and I played the Fantasy Flight versions with mixed success, so here's hoping.

My ALIEN RPG adventure is now a part of my larger ALIEN collection. That feels a bit weird.

These xenomorph concepts for ALIEN: Earth by Ken Barthelmey are really good. The long spines on the first one look cool but seems a bit oversized, and the second has no back pipes and the head forms along the back giving it an ALIEN3 feel. The Queen-like hands are excellent. Brilliant concepts.
