Every Doctor Who’s first season is their best season. With the honourable exception of David Tennant, obv, whose second first season is clearly better than his first first season.

And in typical streaming fashion, it turns out the entire first hour is just set-up. It's the kind of thing that would be gratuitous as a 5 min pre-credits sequence, really, because as background and motivation, it'd be totally achievable in a couple of lines of dialogue.

45 minutes in and I couldn’t tell you a thing about the characters. One’s ostensibly the lead, but they’re just totally interchangeable. It’s just guns and acronyms and shouting, and they’ve spent so much money.

Watching an action drama on a streamer, and they’ve spent a fortune, and it’s all gunplay, khaki uniforms, hard bitten declarations of brotherhood, and… … … …just soooo boring.

It's the job of politicians to lead us to our best selves, not follow us at our worst. Just sayin'.

When they announced Alien: Earth, my immediate reaction was a tired 'why?' I've now watched the first episode and, yeah, it's not really changed my opinion much. Nicely done, nicely acted, nicely staged, but still 'why?'

M:I - The Final Reckoning a vast improvement on the previous entry. The back half of the M:I series is an interesting exercise in movie franchises misunderstanding what made them a hit in the first place, doubling down on that mistake, and then course correcting.
