I have been informed that there were only 5 revivals this season so only 3 could be nominated. The two that were left out were both ABBA musicals (Chess & Mamma Mia).

You know it's a weak year for musicals when two of the five Tony nominees for Best Score are from plays.

I love my cat but I do not like the stress that comes with owning a cat.

Luke Evans should have been nominated for his Met Gala performance.

The main reason I miss living in New York is that it was so much easier to see all the new shows when I was there. Would have loved to see Death of a Salesman or Every Brilliant Thing!

This really was a lax year for original musicals. I guess I’ll hope for Two Strangers to win Best Musical?

I have to admit - while I acknowledge that it’s not the best musical, I’m still shocked that Chess got snubbed for Best Revival. You’d think they’d at least add it to round out the nominees to four.

1/? Yes, and I'll go further. You should be writing a new spec every year, maybe two if you're squeezing it between other work. 1) You're a better writer now than you were a year ago, your samples should be updated to show that. 2) You want a couple fresh samples to cover the wide variety of jobs.

creators get better by finishing projects no project ever comes out as good as it is in your imagination but that’s ok, the next one will be better also it’s ok if projects fail, taking risks and big swings is an important part of growing as a creator

I still want to talk about Chess as the musical has been swimming in my head since Friday. Truthfully, the book is still a mess but the music is the true star on the show - and, wow, the actors DELIVER.

Jake Musical Reviews: Chess - the tone was really bad and didnt know if it wanted to be serious or goofy but literally every other aspect was world class Everyone from the leads to chorus were singing their ass off. The visuals were 10/10. The orchestra was playing like LeBron 9/10 for sure

I went in knowing that and was there primarily for the musical numbers, which it delivered in spades. Lea Michele slays! I could make a coherent argument that Chess is more of an ABBA jukebox musical than Mamma Mia, and just may if we happen to meet at a bar at some point and you buy me a drink.

I learned that my favorite Japanese curry place in NYC, Curry-ya, closed in 2024. Depressing. But after seeing so many restaurants close after COVID, I suppose I should be happy that it lasted that long. 🥺
