PubMed is down. Temporary glitch or a permanent MAGA move to deny the WORLD the best medical science? PubMed is used by the top researchers to conduct vital research. It's not an overstatement to say it is the backbone of the modern world's health research infrastructure. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

So pubmed and eRA Commons seem to be down. The repository that brings federally funded science to the public is seemingly inaccessible. The site for tracking grants is down. And based on a quick search, the whole NIH website.

I wrote a letter to the local paper regarding our Senator's assertion that people haven't been calling him with concerns about the federal mess. They published it, but seem to have attributed it to someone else.

In 2020, we started an NIH R01 to study Parkinson's. Thanks to years of tireless work by my staff, the project is a huge success. The renewal scored top 4%. Yet in May, that staff may lose their jobs b/c of this. Hard-working people with kids & mortgages. I have no words that won't get me in trouble

(1/4) Recent layoffs of federal workers has a disproportionate impact on Native Americans, but is receiving almost no media attention. In Indian Health Services, which provides healthcare to 2.8 mil NAs, 2,200 people were laid off, including 1,400 who provide direct patient care.

Terminating positions, dismantling leadership of divisions, gutting indirects, and canceling study sections and funding opportunities will discourage promising scientists from pursuing a US research career, stifle innovation, and, ultimately, increase mortality from diseases such as cancer. 4/6

I'm #standingupforscience because when I was diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma in 2018, I was terrified. The survival statistics for my type of melanoma was around 20%. But these statistics did not include the lives saved from the recent NCI and CRI funded studies of immunotherapy drugs. 1/6
