It's done! I have just released the Compendium version of #Elite for the #Acorn #Electron. This massively enhanced version of the original game contains pretty much every feature of #BBCMicro Elite, but on the Electron. Just add 16K of sideways RAM. Links in thread. #retrocomputing #retrogaming

It's finally stopped raining here in the Lake District, and the sun is shining. The river level has dropped from what it was yesterday – still flowing through at a fair pace though. It's so nice to step out of the back door of our studio and take in the tranquil scenery and enjoy a moment of calm.

This beauty is fully repaired and upgraded now. Lots of fun doing it.

RISC OS users: I’ve just updated MetaSprite to work around a SpriteExtend bug concerning mouse pointer sprite palettes.

Getting closer to releasing a whole batch of music disks I've put together for the BBC Micro. Spending some time on cycle-optimising the music driver as even two or three cycles make a difference when called in the main play loop. At the moment it requires SWRAM - about to fix that...

Mmmm this floats my boat. Look at that dithering. Mmmm. I'm trying Arculator out on my mac and trying to coax A.I into understanding Euclid files which it doesn't want to do. If I can get it to understand the structure much retro magic will happen. Still, the dithering is lovely in 16 col mode.

Talking of retro shenanigans, one of the things I picked up last week was an Archimedes A3000, to replace the one I foolishly gave away 15 years ago. As usual with these machines it had been battery bombed, but not in a BAD way so a good dose of vinegar and a trip through the dishwasher will help.

They talk in this episode about the Acorn line of computers that was popular in the UK in the 1980s. These computers featured the first RISC-based ARM processors that are in heavy use today. Here is an Acorn A3020 I got to put my hands on at #vcfwest over the weekend. #acorn

I’ve been updating the RISC OS Hourglass API. • The ability to read the nesting depth; percentage; LEDs; and a bitfield documenting the supported colours, writeable colours and the number of LEDs. • The ability to enable nested use of Percentage by defining the meaning of “100%” for nested calls.

New RISC OS release: MenuState 1.01 An esoteric but necessary update – a new SWI to detect the direction of the menu so your interactive help can expand “\R” correctly: menustate.20000.org

RISC OS 3.1 oversight. RO2 featured interactive help and established that “\R” is short for “Move the pointer right to”. RO3.1 introduced right-to-left menus, which are useful when the pointer is at the right hand side of the screen. Unfortunately, interactive help doesn’t know about them...
