Too long since I made any truly whimsical software, so last night I added Apple Touch Bar support to the Mac version of the BeebEm BBC Micro Emulator to give important missing function keys f0-f9 in iconic red-orange, a copy key in somewhat less iconic olive-brown and, a Break key in desiato black.

Getting closer to releasing a whole batch of music disks I've put together for the BBC Micro. Spending some time on cycle-optimising the music driver as even two or three cycles make a difference when called in the main play loop. At the moment it requires SWRAM - about to fix that...

Here's the BBC Micro version of Ultimate Play The Game's 'Nightshade' assembling from source code. This was recovered from Paul Proctor's original development disks. It uses BBC BASIC's built-in assembler to generate the executable. From a time when games were all written in machine code. #6502

Well I mean arguably the updated natively-32-bit successor was the original ARM. And I remain extremely fond of its original native OS, RISC OS, which is FOSS these days and runs natively on any Raspberry Pi up to the 4 & 400. Even a 512MB RasPi 1 or a Pi 2 is plenty.

6502 cognoscenti will know of the 65C816 -- WDC's 16-bit extension to the classic MOS CPU. WDC did plan a 32-bit successor, the 65C832, but never produced it, only a datasheet. Now, someone has implemented it on an FPGA!

Ha, I did briefly consider hacking Lander to run on the ARM1 co-pro, and send graphics commands over the Tube to a BBC Micro to display something similar. Might still be possible! But then someone actually wrote a BBC version of Lander. And that’s really amazing! www.stardot.org.uk/forums/viewt...
