i cannot emphasize enough my belief that building your argument on false claims discredits your entire argument, even if what you’re advocating for is good

an essay about teaching kids to evaluate info from AI that posits “Twentieth-century kids learned to tell the news from the commercials, and to recognize a reporter’s byline as a different kind of authority than a pundit’s opinion.” which is a very revisionist take on 20th century info literacy

This seems like a good time to point out that the Hugo ballot has a "No award" option, and that "I don't think we should give awards to people credibly accused of abuse" is a valid reason to use it

There are two authors on the Hugos Finalists list that I definitely don't feel good about seeing there... but given that originally people seemed to respond to their victim's allegations based on whether they were friends with/fans of the accused, who have a lot of fandom power, i'm not surprised
