It's been a very dry January. To date Halifax area has seen about 30-40mm of precipitation this month (most of which was rain this past Wkend). Not much more likely for January which averages around 100mm. So Jan likely ~50% of normal precipitation. I suspect the drought will be worse #Nsstorm

Overnight lows in Halifax generally above or near normal (~ -10C) until next weekend - rain. Then a pattern shift with Arctic air likely for the 3rd week of January. -20C might be on the table and local likes could be safe for skating by the 25th or so... For the first time in 3 years! #nsstorm

About 4-5 cm so far in Cornwall PE. Got suckered by downward motion between the coastal NS 850mb fronto and the mid level 700 mb fronto band that formed over eastern -southern NB. #PEstorm Father at 18cm of heavy snow in Cole harbour. A few more cm on the backend = most over 20cm in HRM. #nsstorm

From a conceptual model point of view. The highest snowfall totals with this upcoming storm will be in southeastern NB, PEI and western-northern NS. The low tracks too close to the Atlantic coast of NS. I've noticed a bias for QPF distribution overly close to low tracks from some guidance. #nsstorm
