One of the most gratifying aspects of being a programmer (for me) is how once you get to a certain point of infrastructure on a project, and if you haven't blown off both your feet in the process, it becomes breathtakingly easy to iterate on your previous work.

Did some work over the weekend on a totally revamped UI for my Cyberpunk MUD. Instead of having one window, it's going to be a desktop-like environment that can have multiple aspects of the world on display simultaneously. I also added a filter to make it look like a failing CRT.

When I was younger, I used to want one computer that was my everything computer. No dealing with migrating profiles or syncing or anything. One computer. THE computer. In my old age I feel the cost of context switching. It's nice to have a work computer that I can hate but it's ready to use.

I'm making a cyberpunk MUD with a home-grown engine and client. I have enough of it built to be able to create a character, log in, and move around. Current work is building out tooling for zone design. I can add arbitrary rooms graphically. I'll eventually extend it to other game assets.
