An absolutely seminal speech from @eddavey.libdems.org.uk - one of those speeches which marks a turning point and defines a new political age. There is the decent, kind, caring, fair Britain which the Liberal Democrats advocate. Or the imitation of Trump's broken America which Farage represents.

If you are fed up with the two old parties letting you down. If you are scared of the rise of racism and extremism. If you believe in decency, tolerance and the rule of law. Join us. Because we believe in the British people. We love our country. And together, we can change it for good.

The Liberal Democrats welcome this first step but urge Keir Starmer to go further and recognise Palestine immediately. Far greater action is also needed to address the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, including fully ceasing arms sales and imposing sanctions on the Israeli cabinet.

Other parties are too busy terrified of Reform or trying desperately to sound exactly like them. Only the Liberal Democrats can stand strong against divisive populism, defend true British values and offer a positive alternative to the hate and division.

Ironically a bit late to this, but this is pretty spot on. Was discussing this with a mate who's not a bit political - he loved the references but also simultaneously disliked the attempt to relate without serious content. A good tactic for political exposure, but not for expanding the base.
