Just set up DNS host overrides in the new OPNsense router and it feels like some kind of magic to be able to access stuff in my network by name instead of IP! This is pretty neat, I'd been relying on a bookmarks folder previously. #homelab #networking

OPNsense router is up and running! It was... surprisingly uneventful. I haven't set up any of the advanced features yet, but those will come with time. For now the only functionality I've lost is Plex outside of my home network, but I can fix that later. #homelab #networking #OPNsense

New OPNsense router is mostly configured, running repeated iperf tests overnight to ensure the SFPs don't cause the PC to overheat. It won't be running full bore like this regularly, but it's good to do a burn-in test for mission-critical equipment. #homelab #networking

Well shoot, the Cisco SFP-10G-LRM SFPs specifically say "Not compatible" in my Brocade ICX-7250 switch. At this rate it might be cheaper to buy new SFPs for $30 each instead of buying eBay lots and finding they aren't the advertised speed/aren't compatible/etc... #homelab #networking

Did some further troubleshooting and fixed the fiber link to the living room, the cable wasn't fully seated in the SFP down in the basement. Also found that the new cheap unmanaged 10G switch doesn't have a bad SFP port, it's just bricked. Oh well! At least the 1G switch works fine. #networking
