This is an interesting piece about how NYT is using AI in its newsroom. (tl;dr: they generate transcripts of the podcasts they're tracking, those transcripts gets summarized, those summaries get delivered in a report to journalists)

If Jeff Bezos could afford to spend $75 million on the Melania movie & $500 million for a yacht to sail off to his $55 million wedding to give his wife a $5 million ring, please don't tell me he needed to fire one-third of the Washington Post staff. Democracy dies in oligarchy.

I left the protest at least two hours after the big march got gassed, and when I took my mask off three blocks away from the ICE building the gas was still heavy in the air. The disproportionate size of the attack is as big a story as the peaceful, vulnerable crowd. You didn't have to get close.

Jeffrey Epstein was offered "100 million of spotify at 5 b valuation" and asked Peter Thiel for "thoughts?" Then asked Thiel for "thoughts" on Thiel's own "Palentir" (sic) which Thiel said he was "bullish" on. Did Epstein own a chunk of Palantir? Spotify?

Here's another fun fact about CoreCivic's executive leadership. One of its board members is Thurgood Marshall, Jr, son of the legendary civil rights lawyer and Supreme Court Justice. I'm sure dad is very proud his son is presiding over concentration camps.

Sometimes in a docuseries this same scene is used in the end of an episode as a big reveal, like "that bad guy we talked about the whole time? oh yeah, we booked him" which I honestly kinda hate cuz its like the producers pointing out they're good at their job as part of the narrative of their piece

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call βsymbolic compliance.β Thatβs when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

We need to get it broadly understood that Stephen Miller's ethnic cleansing will result in a permanent metastasized immigrant carceral state and paramilitary warfare on US streets that goes on *for years.* The internal logic of his agenda dictates this of necessity.

Cernovich is claiming protesters have "hearing loss machines" which is weird considering CBP has several contracts for LRAD systems-those are Long Range Acoustic Devices-which broadcast loud high-frequency sounds, often used for crowd dispersal.

Not only does ICE need to be abolished, but there should be publically aired tribunals for as long as it takes to hold every last one of these thugs accountable. No one, not even the people who file paperwork or handle payroll, should be immune from prosecution.

informal q for Americans: how much were you taught about the moral failings of America in school? Where/when? Public or private? I went to public school in NY suburbs and we did a whole unit on WWII internment camps in 7th grade. I graduated in 2007. I remember being assigned a Zinn book in HS too.
