Poop can save species 💩 Scientists used fecal metagenomics to find pathogens in the critically endangered Iberian desman. They found 26 potential threats, some in almost half the individuals tested. Non-invasive way to study wildlife health!

The first day of our Workshop on Genome Annotation
@ibe-barcelona.bsky.social
was great! We had
@bombarelya.bsky.social
giving a primer on genome assembly to get started. Looking forward to zooming in into annotation itself tomorrow! 🪱🐦🧬🧩🌵☘️🌽

It’s not the head, it’s the butt! Meet a completely unknown organism: a blow fly (Calliphoridae) that evolved social integration in termite nests using a false termite head in the posterior part of the body. @CurrentBiology

Happy that my first publication in 🦋 is about this. Our preprint on the origin of Bilateria is out. A nice story about the position of the Xenoacoelomorpha in the animal tree of life.

Novel genomic approaches support Xenacoelomorpha as sister to all Bilateria
One of the most contentious debates in animal evolution is whether the first bilaterian animal was simple or complex. At the centre of this debate is the phylogenetic placement of the enigmatic lineag...
