Hiroshi Ezura follows at #SOLRUB2025 talking about CRISPR breeding in #tomatoes. The first CRISPR-modified cultivar was Sicilian Rouge with a higher #GABA content available in Japan, and soon in the US. They are working now in a variety with a high Brix content targeting the inventase inhibitors.

Laura Toppino follows at #SOLRUB2025 with her presentation about avoiding eggplant fruit flesh browning using CRISPR-Cas9 technology. Browning is produced by polyphenols. Chlorogenic acid is the main browning polyphenol in eggplants. It is caused by PPOs. Knocking out HQT reduces browning.

Switch to #coffee genomics by Pasti Rastas at the #SOLRUB2025. He presents high recombination maps in the tetraploid species Coffea arabica. Centromeres were identified by low recombination rate. They were enriched in repetitive elements. Arabica map was bigger than robusta, 500 vs 100 cM/LG.

Coming back from the coffee break to #SOLRUB2025 with Wang Lihao who brings us the identification of genes behind different traits in #pepper using a multiomics data. This knowledge has been applied in breeding. He presents new pepper varieties like Zhongjiao No2 developed for processing industry.
