Today is London Cost of Rent day - the average London renter has spent the year so far working to pay their landlord. Cost is the number one issue for most renters. We need a cap on rent increases and a national commission to look at ways to bring rents down relative to income.

When the #rentersrightsbill passes tenants will be able to appeal above-market rent rises at a tribunal. Opponents of the bill are claiming tenants will challenge every rent rise. We think that's unlikely. But a cap on rent rises would be a simpler way of protecting renters.

The #rentersrightsbill will end fixed term tenancies. And because section 21 evictions are also being abolished, tenancies will be secure for renters AND open-ended. So no more moving home every year - but tenants will still have the flexibility to leave when they want.
