The Renters Rights Act received Royal Assent this week. It was great to celebrate this watershed moment with members of our renters group at the Renters' Reform Coalition event in Parliament yesterday.

Today, the end of no-fault evictions, a new landlord database, and greater rights for tenants to challenge huge rent hikes are enshrined in law. While we still don't know when these changes will actually come into force, this is a huge milestone for private renters in England.

🚨BREAKING NEWS: we've won! Last night, the Renters' Rights Act finally became law of the land. This is the moment we've been waiting for. Soon, landlords will be banned from evicting tenants for no reason. A new era for renters' rights begins now!

Many private renters live in damp and mouldy homes - one in five of which don't meet the decent homes standard. The Government must announce the date for Awaab's Law to be extended to the private rented sector ASAP.

Excessive guarantor requirements are a tool for discrimination - thanks to Baroness Kennedy for backing our demands to restrict them in the @houseoflords.parliament.uk on Monday. Although the amendment wasn't voted on, the Minister did agree to meet with renter groups to discuss further.
