🚨 The Renters’ Rights Bill has now received Royal Assent. From ACORN's very first meeting in Bristol over a decade ago, we identified ending unfair evictions as a key demand for our campaigning and a key wrong to right for our class.

Today Awaab’s Law comes into effect. But across the country, damp and mouldy homes are plaguing private renters. The government needs to announce the date for this law to be extended to the private sector immediately.

🔥 Last week we shut down a conference where bailiffs come together and discuss how best to line their pockets at our expense. We then moved on to Leeds City Hall & occupied the lobby there.

🔥 Today, 300 ACORN members from across England and Wales travelled to Leeds and shut down a conference that hosted some of Britain’s biggest bailiff firms.

The chair of Leeds strategy and resources board, Asghar Khan, has been ignoring our emails and calls for months. After 20 minutes of occupying Leeds Civic Hall, we’ve secured a meeting with him for Tuesday to discuss our Bailiff Free Britain campaign. Direct action works🔥

After shutting down the bailiff conference, we’re now occupying Leeds City Hall. Leeds is one of the worst councils in the country for referrals to bailiffs over council tax debt. Our message is clear: Leeds is for the people! No bully bailiffs, no scum landlords🔥

Landlords are openly breaking the law to turn homes into year-round Airbnbs while we can’t find anywhere affordable to live. They’re being allowed to game the system while families are pushed out of their own cities and communities. Enough. Homes are for people, not profiteers.

This isn’t an unavoidable fact of life. It’s the direct result of policy choices made my those in power. It doesn’t have to be this way.

They actually want to charge us more for the luxury of raw sewage being dumped in our rivers and on our beaches, burst pipes across the country, and record profits for shareholders. That’s the legacy of privatisation in England.

“9 out of 10 young adults living with parents in the UK would face costs of nearly half their income if they moved out” This has been signed off by every government that handed our housing system to profiteering landlords while robbing a generation of stability and independence.

This is the reality of Section 21 “No Fault” evictions. Landlords kicking people out onto the street because they don’t want to live in run down, unsafe housing. The ban on Section 21 can’t come soon enough.
