Bike share revenue is up over 30% compared to last year, and now has close to 300k unique customers. That is 10% of the population of Toronto! I also think that their internal forecasts are a little pessimistic pinning 2025 rides at 8.1 million. I forecast closer to 8.3M when the year is over.

I was at Wellesley station last night at around midnight. I had never seen such an intense cleaning operation. There was also electrical work going on replacing light ballasts and such. There must have been 40+ employees working. I thought it was just standard nighttime maintenance, guess not.

Will anyone take responsibility for what is happening with the Yonge Street re-design. First proposed 10 years ago. Approved 4 years ago with a recommended design. Original timeline had construction starting in 2023. Now apparently there will be 3 (?) more years of design!!!!

Absolutely feckless letter from @mayoroliviachow.ca on implementing bus lanes between Eglinton and Bloor. These lanes were first proposed 5 years ago. The “path forward” was presented in the original plan. It could be approved today. It won’t be because the mayor doesn’t care if it is.

Buried in the City’s report on the Bathurst and Dufferin #RapidTO lanes is this figure that shows that the 352 parking spaces being proposed to be removed only make $310,000 a year. That means, on average, each of these street parking spaces makes the city less than $2.50 EACH DAY. #TOpoli

@mayoroliviachow.ca has been a complete failure on public transportation. We know what solutions would have a lasting impact on mitigating traffic, council has re-affirmed wanting transit priority lanes for a decade. No follow through and no mention of improving transit in her "bucket list".

I mean… isn’t the whole point of legalizing sixplexes is to spread the density across the city? So we don’t just keep piling on the density onto Yonge, causing issues of overloaded schools & community centers, while the surrounding low rise neighborhoods are experiencing a loss in population?

Well, that was fast. The daily trip record for Bike Share Toronto was just smashed yesterday as 44,000 trips were recorded. Bikes were free yesterday in a promotion with Tangerine Bank.

Very disappointed with Councillor Dianne Saxe, who ran on improving reliability and efficiency of transit. She wants to exempt Bloor to Dupont from RapidTO. Climate champions don't give priority to street parking on our arterials over transit lines that move 40,000 people a day.

The city has released a presentation on their plan to *start* creating pedestrian street policy and guidelines. I don't know why we only look to North American cities when looking at examples of implementation.

Yesterday, Bike Share reached a record 36,000 trips! In addition the 14-day average is about 20% higher than this time last year. The popularity of the system is exploding, and our governments need to support a safe and connected cycling network.

I can only imagine the story that led to these signs to be placed on a Bloor St. bar patio. Nothing says "welcome to a bar on a major street" like a sign telling patrons to be quiet. I'm sure it was directed by the city, like they did for a similar patio by the Gladstone.

NIMBY, non-grass root, fake astroturf campaign "protect bathurst" is now crashing out and comparing street parking to an 100 year old oak tree. All the while using a picture that shows the congestion caused by parked cars forcing vehicles and streetcars into the same lane.

“Protect Bathurst” anti-transit astroturf doesn’t understand logic. They are complaining about streetcar delays causing traffic blockage. This occurs because there are parked cars in right lane, so traffic has no way of getting around. With dedicated transit lanes they would never block traffic.

Councillor Mike Colle wants to stop moving forward with the beltline gap connections project, which included bi-directional bike lanes and *no* lane removals. Which filled a gap in the network of the Beltline and Marlee ave. He advocated for it last year at committee.

Unfortunately Toronto’s only real, major pedestrianized zone is private land. The city wouldn’t dare pedestrianize streets under their jurisdiction.

Rush hour at Adelaide and Jarvis. 13 bikes and 9 cars. Bikes allocated 25% of road space. You do the math on how to solve congestion.

Toronto’s two new ferries will be costing this much alone. Not to mention maintenance/staffing annual costs that I’m sure are much higher than a bridge.

We need to remove street parking on arterials, and get streetcars and busses out of mixed traffic. There is finally a chance to reshape Bathurst and Dufferin with transit priority lanes. This is a huge opportunity and the city needs to hear the public's support.

I counted the numbers of Bikes vs Cars on Bloor St, where Doug Ford wants to remove the bike lanes that see some of the highest ridership in North America. During an average rush hour, I found 29 bikes and 24 cars over 2 minutes. All traffic modes were moving efficiently.

Where can the city save tax dollars? Maybe not conducting a year long multi-phased study on improving the paths in Trinity Bellwoods. You are the professionals, just do the work. The deference to “consultation” is exhausting.

When all is said and done, *this* will be the biggest boondoggle of the Eglinton Crosstown. When the 14 years of construction and budget overruns are long forgotten, people will be asking why we built it in the first place if the line is not given traffic priority.

Staff were liars. Sidewalks that the city claimed were clear were not clear. Good for Chow for sticking to her guns in a council that sometimes refuses to acknowledge reality.

I genuinely thought we could have had a @annehidalgo.bsky.social or Plante in @mayoroliviachow.ca. Unfortunately, nowhere near the case. In even worse news, there probably won’t be any better viable options in 2026.

Mayor Chow was elected to fix transit. I’m hard pressed to find any actions she’s taken other than raising their budget and freezing fares. There are levers to pull to greatly improve rider experience that don’t just involve the budget.

This is the reality of housing in Toronto. This 5-unit century old powerhouse was demolished for a new single family home with a basement apartment. No consultation required. Meanwhile, the original building would not be able to be built as-of-right, today.

Today cyclists lead by @fridaysforfuture.bsky.social went to Stantec's office to ask them why they're helping Ford destroy safe infrastructure. Instead of speaking w these concerned citizens, Stantec employees called in Toronto Police who dragged out and arrested two people for trespass to property.

Is it bad that I got upset that this joke implies that driving is as natural/necessary to humans as flying is to birds?

Ford’s government commissioned a study from a third party construction firm and found that removal would lead to increases in collisions and sidewalk riding. It also found that alternate routes were not feasible. It was submitted as a part of the legal challenge from @cycletoronto.bsky.social
