This is partly a function of having only three hours’ sleep last night, but I just spent 30 minutes trying to write a nuanced comment about something and then decided not to post it anyway. Meanwhile others have no problem positing that McCartney Kessler has had a better season than Jessie Pegula

One of these days you dorks will realize and accept that there is no separate artistic score in tennis and the only score that matters in tennis is the final score. Winners win. Losers go home. One day. One. Day.

Reading the latest Bagel Bites, and please do write about the difficulty of marketing doubles players! I am intrigued. (Also would support you putting together the oral history of the Hsieh/Ostapenko partnership, brief as it was)

Barring another withdrawal, the 25–32 seeds are Ostapenko, Kenin, Kostyuk, Frech, Kalinskaya, Yastremska, Fernandez and Kessler.

Since 2018, Hsieh Su-Wei and Katerina Siniakova have traded Wimbledon doubles titles, winning 3 each w/ multiple partners in the last 6 events. Siniakova has won the even years & Hsieh the odd years… Now the WTA doubles rivals face off again in Friday’s semifinal.

That slice to go up 0-30, and that winner on her 4th match point: Amanda Anisimova fucking won this match. The shots she conjures with that backhand 🫠

That has to be the most painful retirement in grand slam history. Jannik Sinner advances to the quarterfinal after Grigor Dimitrov is forced to retire while LEADING the world #1, 6-3, 7-5, 2-2. Utterly heartbreaking for Grigor.

With Alexandrova out, Anisimova is guaranteed of making the top 10, yes? She’s no. 8 in the live rankings and can only be overtaken by Navarro and either Samsonova or Tauson (if one of the two wins the whole tournament)
