Roberta Flack is such an overlooked legend. Beyond the mega-hits, "Do What You Gotta Do" is devastating. So many classics, my favorite being her duets with her friend Donny Hathaway.

NEW: "Be Brave" If you're a US player, now's the time to talk. Because if it's not now, it's never. Sport and politics do mix. Plus: a historic quarterfinal lineup, Naomi gets the fashion influencers fighting & gets Jelena Djokovic activated. Undeniable!

It's not officially a Slam until Jelena Djokovic accuses Naomi Osaka of being so nasty and so rude while Jelenaโs husband narrowly avoids a default for something completely of his own making (again). ...

When Kate Hudson got the SAG nomination all the journo types were like "ah yes, just as we predicted" when in fact no one predicted it. It's weird that in every Oscar year someone comes out of nowhere and the knowledgeable types act like it was a foregone conclusion the whole time

I enjoyed One Battle After Another but the radical politics are a bit undercooked. I found Sean Penn hammy, more fitting for a Tarantino film. Hamnet & Sinners are my movies of the year.

I've seen people describe Hamnet as "manipulative" and "hammy" ... damn, what are you afraid of? I didn't find it indulgent. It didn't luxuriate in grief or sentiment. (Sincerity is hard, irony is easy.) To me, they pulled off a pretty tough adaptation.
