54 years and a day apart this week two Early Medieval hoards were discovered in Cheshire. The Castle Esplanade hoard of Viking silver & Anglo-Saxon pennies, AD900-950 found #OTD in 1950 & the lovely Huxley Hoard of Viking arm rings, an ingot & lead fragments found in 2004, AD850-950 📸 me & NML

Viking Swords • c.9th Century • Dublin The modern suburbs of Kilmainham and Islandbridge were once the burial grounds of Viking Dublin. It is thought that at least fifty people were buried at Kilmainham and Islandbridge. Making it one of the largest known Viking cemeteries outside Scandinavia.

A very sad and devastating statement from the internationally known silversmith, Séamus Gill, whose studio was broken into at Easter. His entire collection & work in progress were stolen. Séamus worked with Brian Clarke and Michael Good on applying anti-clastic raising to Iron Age ribbon torcs.

Lovely visit to Lunt Meadows this afternoon for the opening of their new Learning Centre. Great to see how the project has developed since it was first excavated in 2012 #Lunt #Mesolithic
