Recently we've been busy making improvements to our exhibitions and displays. This new exhibit, building on our Wonders of Colour project, features historic local people (famous and not so famous!) associated with science - here's a look at the newly installed pictutes. (Funded by the @rsc.org)

We’re looking forward to a new art exhibition at the Museum, opening 10 Jan! "Four Visions of Cheshire" by Cheshire artists David Kereszteny Lewis, Ali Kippax, Andy McFadden and Jon Clayton explores Cheshire landscapes. Artwork & merchandise for sale.

We’re proud of our Treasures collection. Some are currently on loan to the Museum of Liverpool's “Treasure: history unearthed” exhibition, bringing together artefacts at the British Museum and museums from Wales and the northwest of England. For more info go to www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/whatson

During the first phase of our "Wonders of Colour" events, Fabio Parmeggiani gave a superb talk about dyeing, "Chemistry to Dye For", with live chemistry demonstrations, thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. A video is now available on the Museum's YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/watch?v=FesW...

New exhibition at the Museum: Lazy Afternoon in Cheshire, by Ela Levando, who was trained in Poland. Ela graduated from the State High School of Fine Arts in Łódź, and later studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Nicolaus Copernicus University, Toruń. Free meet the artist event Sat 25 Oct 2-4pm

Our Wonders of Colour exhibition has now opened, bringing to life the colourful history and science of dyes, pigments, food, art, stained glass, a 17th century dye house, tanning, and more. Objects and stories from the town’s history illustrate the impact of technology over the years @rsc.org

We're looking forward to the next phase of our Wonders of Colour programme of events. The exhibition opens on 14th October, with children's workshops during half term, and a range of talks with a colour theme.

Some great talks scheduled for the autumn to accompany our 'Ancient villages - seven miles around Nantwich' exhibition

A great way to learn about a town's history is by going on walking tours and we run lots! Around the town centre, ancient streets, the River Weaver, historic pubs, plus special ones around events (e.g. the Battle of Nantwich re-enactment, the Food Festival). All popular with residents and visitors.

A recent addition to our collection, this almost larger than life suit of armour has somehow been accommodated in our main gallery's Civil War display. Look out for him when you're visiting - he's hard to miss!

We have an exhibition at present featuring VJ Day and the stories of local people at the time. A Reminiscence Book is available where visitors can record their (or those of their family members) memories of war time in our area. The exhibition runs until Sat 11 Oct. Admission free.

A huge "thank you" to the South Cheshire & Borders Guild of Weavers, Spinners & Dyers, whose demos in Nantwich Town Square today were part of our "Wonders of Colour" series of events. People were fascinated by the demos and the group's displays of yarns and fibres coloured with natural dyes

Our new exhibition “Ancient Villages - Seven Miles Round Nantwich”, was inspired by a notebook compiled by 19th century #Nantwich historian James Hall & features place names, churches, pubs, transport, zoos, people & quirky stories! The notebook, loaned by the Cheshire Record Office, is on display

At Nantwich Museum we’re hard at work preparing for the first phase of our “Wonders of Colour” events and activities. We'll have fun-filled drop-in family workshops (all with a colour and dyeing theme) on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout August, 10am-3pm

In one of our recently refurbished cabinets we have a wonderful collection of glass bottles of all shapes and sizes. Most were used in local shops such as chemists and grocers. The varying colours of the glass will be explored in our 'Wonders of Colour' exhibition at the Museum later in 2025.

Nantwich Museum will be taking part in the this year's Festival of Archaeology, organised by the Council for British Archaeology. We're running 2 special tours around Nantwich, especially for the festival: a new geology based walk (23 July) and a Medieval tour (30 July). Get in touch for more info!

A great day in Nantwich Town Square yesterday making salt from brine. Huge thanks to volunteers from Middlewich Heritage, Nantwich Museum, and Reverend Mark Hart, St. Mary's Church, Nantwich, performed the "Blessing of the Brine", an Ascension Day tradition. Thanks to everyone who dropped by

We're excited about our new display featuring the Dabbers and the history of Nantwich Football Club! The Club was founded in 1884 and their long history is represented by team photos, football kit, and all kinds of memorabilia. A must-see exhibit!

Volunteers' week gives an opportunity to thank volunteers. From 2-8 June, we'll join organisations across the UK in recognising contributions made by our wonderful volunteers. Our small museum has over 100 volunteers who contribute key skills across the Museum, a huge "thank you" to them all!

‼️PUBLICATION ALERT‼️ Huge congrats to alumnus Saskia Caddell who's masters research has been published in Nantwich Museum Journal 2025. With Drs Chris Aris and Amber Collings, Saskia worked on developing methods to identify if cremated remains were human and then produce biological profiles.

Saskia also presented here work at a public outreach event at @nantwichmuseum.bsky.social last year - an excellent example of #research, #outreach, and #sciencecommunication in action! Huge congrats again Sas, we're all so proud of you! #KeeleUniversity

Here are a few pictures from our VE Day event yesterday. Some WW2 items from our collection were on display and items kindly loaned by local people - helmets, documents & even an air-raid siren! Clothing items included a de-mob shirt provided when soldiers left the army to return to civilian life.

If you'll be in Nantwich on Thurs 8th May do drop in to the Museum between 11am and 4pm - we will have free themed refreshments. To commemorate the occasion there will be a small exhibition and a Reminiscence Book will be available where visitors can record their memories of the war.

Horses have always been part of #Cheshire life. We have several paintings of them. These two from different eras are interesting to compare. ‘Mr Walsh's Perdita, with Jockey Up, on Nantwich Racecourse’, c.1781, is by Benjamin Killingbeck. ‘I'll Race You to the Gate’ is by Dorothy Bradford, 1918–2008

Visitors to Nantwich Museum shouldn't forget to look up! This immaculate Carlton Flyer bicycle from the 1950s was donated for our 2022 "A Spectacle of Sport" exhibition. Its owner, who lived in Nantwich, must have cared for it very much. Recently it was put on display and is a much admired exhibit.

We’re delighted to have been awarded an outreach grant from the #RoySocChem to explore the chemistry & history of colour, dyes and pigments, via an exhibition, a colour-focused trail around the Museum, talks, chemistry demos, and hands-on activities for all age groups. More infomation to follow!

We’re really proud of our new archaeology display. With objects dating back to Roman times, including Samian ware, Coarse Cheshire ware and more. The new interpretation makes it easier to learn about the items displayed. Plus we have some fascinating handling objects for everyone to examine!

Discover how alcohol impacted people's lives and what the Primitive Methodists did to support those with struggling with addiction in our new display, funded by the Association of Independent Museums and the Heritage Fund. We reopen the Chapel & Museum for the season on Thursday 3rd April!

As it is 80 years since VE and VJ Day, we wanted to explore Primitive Methodism as a 'Peace Church'. We have displays exploring both the 'Absence of Peace' and the work of Primitive Methodists campaigning for peace. Explore the new displays when we reopen on Thursday 3 April.

We have some beautiful local treasures in our collection. This ring, the "Worleston Ring", c.AD 200-600 is a gold spiral ring with triangle indents, said to have no British parallel besides a Roman ring found at Hadrian’s wall. Definitely worth treasuring!
