When colleagues and I wanted to change Green Party policy on HS2, we humanised the effects of the northern legs' cancellation: the increased fares for a Welsh person with caring responsibilities in the Midlands; the increased air pollution for working class communities in Manchester, etc. It worked.

Anna here, deploying an impressive amount of ingenuity to overcome the cycle-shaped hole in the UK's railway system. If they saw this, the folk who oversee this aspect of the system (provision for cycles) should be embarrassed that it comes to this, but I fear they wouldn't be.

It's shocking that with a new Labour government and in 2025, equality of access to our railway for disabled people is actually being downgraded, not tackled. An important letter here to the Transport Secretary to do the basic decent thing and get disabled people's needs right on the agenda.

Want to get people out of cars? Add rail capacity! #HS2 in full would rebuild both Manchester and Leeds stations and take away the express trains that clog them up. That would massively increase local train capacity. Then add a new high speed line between them and repeat the Lizzie Line effect.
