To make it easier for passengers to find the correct seat, SNCF is to renumber the seats on its TGV trains. From 14 December, each seat will be identified by a three-digit number, the first number indicating the coach, and the second two the seat number.

I was due to travel here on Saturday, quite unfortunate. Worth pointing out as not communicated by DB is that coming from Cheb taking trains via Marktredwitz and Weiden can get you to Nürnberg faster than the busses as there can be long timetable gaps. Marktredwitz-Weiden is also a quite scenic line

The railway between Hersbruck (Pegnitz) and Pegnitz in Bavaria is closed until further notice due to the poor condition of one of the bridges. This is affecting services from Nürnberg to destinations such as Bayreuth and Cheb, which are partially replace by bus.

The Swiss and UK governments signing a Memorandum of Understanding in late May to investigate establishing a direct rail connection between the two countries reminded us that this is not the first time that there has been a direct rail service between the UK and Switzerland.

It is now less than four weeks until the Summer 2025 edition of the European Rail Timetable is published so if you haven't already done so now is the time to order your copy to ensure it is amongst the first to be dispatched.

The Spanish press recently reported that Spanish Railways (RENFE) was considering stopping all cross-border operations, only for a further announcement to rapidly follow that it was instead entering a "phase of reflection".

The April 2025 edition of the European Rail Timetable is now on sale. The April edition contains updates for Nightjet overnight trains to Italy and high-speed services between France and Italy.

Media reports suggest that due to planned engineering work in Germany, through services between Polish destinations and Berlin may only be able to operate over their full length for 11 weeks in 2026! Replacement buses will operate part of the journey at other times.

The Durrës (Plazh) to Elbasan service is suspended until further notice. However from March 18th to June 13th the Shkodër to Laç / Gjormë service will resume for visits to the Franciscan church of St Antony first built around the year 1300.

Due to the discovery of an unexploded World War 2 bomb, services using the Gare du Nord in Paris are severely disrupted. All Eurostar services to and from Paris are cancelled. At the time of writing it was hoped that services would be able to restart on Saturday.

Services between Iran and Turkey will recommence from March 9 (ERT Table 1575). The first service from Tehran will be on March 9, returning from Van the following day.

The fleet of XPT intercity trains based on the British Intercity 125 High Speed Train (HST) has been running on Australian rails for over 40 years.

Transport for Wales has placed the first of six Class 153 single-car diesel multiple units, which are being refurbished to carry bicycles in to service on the Heart of Wales line between Shrewsbury and Swansea (ERT Table 145).
