Solid actioner from Indonesia but could have used less shaky-cam. With top-notch performers and choreographers, there's no reason to use it.

I adored this super-dark horror and you should really see it in the theater if supernatural stuff freaks you out like it does me. One of the best horror films of the year and coming out very soon.

J-Horror from the 90s that ends up more like Indonesian horror by the end. I liked it but it's not a must-see.

Surprisingly, this was my jam. Switches up a lot of the story to make it a Christmas Dexter with a 'chosen one' trope. I would watch a tv series continuation of this for sure. Plus, LOTS of Nazi killing.

This was not for me. At all. Pretty lame.

One of the other best films to play this years fest. What starts as a nerdy horror comedy ends up as a seriously frightening monkey's paw story where the protagonist is the moral antagonist and you root for the antagonist to come out okay (even though they are TERRIFYING and deserve awards)

Well this was tense. One of the best performances by Rose Byrne of her career. For moms who are beyond stressed out.

One of the absolute best films to play Fantastic Fest this year. An Italian romantic family foodie dramedy mixed with an A+ (and I MEAN A+) Chinese action film that somehow works so well, it can only be described as EPIC.

Super-solid balls-to-the-wall sequel that is somehow even bloodier and hysterically implausible than the original.

I think this is a very good film. The fact that it's the first Anderson film I liked a lot since There Will Be Blood was nice, since I was expecting otherwise. I don't think it's the masterpiece that some are saying, I think he just wanted to make a fun film, and he succeeded.

Another Lanthimos film I dug. Surprised to see that Plemons is the best here (and the best in his career I would say) but everyone is good.

I dug most of this. Sam Rockwell is so good in it and the idea of doing a dystopian sci-fi satire the way they do is solid and quite funny. But it doesn't totally work.

We reviewed this film about Austin Public Access television in the 80s and 90s and of course, I had to invite my bud Martin Thomas and his daughter Guinevere Thomas to discuss the times. Because we used to be on a popular show on there, dontcha know.

Just a whiff. Some of the most ham-handed metaphorical horror stuff I've ever come across. It's a skip.

More like a big bunch of bullshit. I tend to LOVE magical realism romance films and this did not work for me at all. Some of my other critics were quite taken with it though. This is why I cannot trust anyone.

Always fun doing these home release shows with @gholson.bsky.social and we get to explain (again) why you should really go out of your way to watch a "Baby Assassins" movie.

I was both deeply amused and moved by this terrific film that had both such a great script and really inventive cinematography.

I was not sure this could be pulled off. It's a conversation film punctuated by occasional bloody deaths. But to our surprise, it's quite captivating.

This was totally my shizz. Both fun and super-dark. AND it has an awesome cat all the way through. Four stars.

With all the quirky small-town characters, but none (except Honey) with the sense that they have interesting inner lives, but only seem to exist to be quirky small-town characters. Like someone else tried to make a Coen brothers film but didn't understand how. And yet, it's by Ethan Coen. Not great.

Just don't. But if you enjoy a bit of schadenfreude, you can listen to our review.

Although I'm not on the review (had a super-early morning the next day) I feel the need to pimp our excellent audio review of "Weapons", the next film by the guy who brought us "Barbarian" and I'm happy to report there is no sophomore slump in effect. Great stuff.

I am not on this review but I did see it. Overall, not bad slasher-horror entertainment, even if it isn't exactly breaking any new ground in the genre. I will bitch a bit about the end which does that 'wagging the finger at the very audience watching it for enjoying it' thing that drives me crazy.

Wright and I discover that Steppenwolf and Sugar Hill are great hidden gems, marvel at 4ks of Dark City and Brazil, finally weigh in on Sinners, and more. Love doing this show.

Much to my surprise, this was delightful. 3-5 huge belly laughs, hundreds of chuckles.

Finally, the Fantastic Four done correctly. I really dug this. Best MCU film since "Spider-Man: No Way Home" for my money. Love that retro-futurism and the real bond between the family.

I wish I liked this more. Or it had been about 40 minutes shorter at least. Great performances and cinematography though.

I'm not on this review (but there is a link on the page to one I am on), but this crazed, psychedelic, time travel comedy might become a major cult phenom. If you take the time to seek it out and watch it like it deserves, it might.

I wasn't on this particular review. Personally I thought this was a huge letdown compared to the first one. And a 'to be continued' ending...booo

James Gunn's take on the character isn't quite the wacky GOTG take we're used to from him, but the Gunn Goofiness does get in the way sometimes and it's just a bit overstuffed. It still works better than we've seen (in film) for the character than anything in quite a while.

Everyone in Austin reading this should come to One Man's Trash Presents: Tammy and the T-Rex tonight at the Violet Crown Cinema at 7pm. Hosts Wright and Eric will be introducing the film with comedy and prizes and I will apparently have to do something other than just drink my beer which I resent.

Just junky. Not a TOTAL write-off but it's certainly not good.
