The other weekend I completed The Roottrees are Dead after an addictive two-session rabbit hole. In its best moments it captures much of what I love about Obra Dinn; deductive reasoning and investigation. I'm now getting into the added expansion, Roottreemania, and enjoying it a fair bit less.

Unpopular opinion: Far Cry Blood Dragon starts strong but descends into cringy millennial satire-as-parody instead of satire-as-love. It abandons the earnest, dialled self-seriousness that forms the best homages in favour of kitschy silliness and hammy misunderstanding of the material.

Last night I completed Playthrough #1 of Silent Hill f. Overall, I feel its achievements outweigh its lesser parts, the latter constituting of excessive combat and tonally dissonant gamification of said combat to no real benefit to a) the combat itself, and b) the prose and tone of the narrative.

It's pretty wild how believable and detailed we can render people in Modern Video Games.
