Golmud Railway remake for Battlefield 6 is a blessing, and a striking reminder of how integral well designed open playspace maps are to the series identity. Having room to breathe and pace yourself, and opportunity to approach Conquest points from multiple angles, is what Battlefield is all about.

I wrapped up Pragmata the other night, bonus content aside (that shouldn't take long). Overall very positive thoughts and feelings, with the narrative being the weakest cog in the machine; it's ~fine~, but the script and characterisation just isn't quite there, if well meaning and servicable.

I saw a clip of a skating section and yeah this is absolutely NOT for me.

With all the hacking stacks and tech combos, Pragmata's combat sometimes gives me Mass Effect 2/3 vibes.

I might one day try Mixtape, and I'm stoked for the team, but the level of instinctive repulsion I get from the whole tone, vibe, and prose is just so overwhelming I cannot reasonably engage with it right now. And I know how fucking mean and horrible that sounds. I don't mean it to.

If we're gonna have anthropomorphic animalia as the cast, my preference is for the unsettling hyper real proportions and a realistic rendering style, over most instances of more stylised toon visual direction. Stuff like Sine Mora and Beyond Good and Evil. Thus, Star Fox looks rad.

That report that "nobody is watching the Star Wars sequel trilogy" is simply because as a complete narrative arc it sucks. The Last Jedi is littered with the sickest shit of the three but it's not enough to elevate an tonally, narratively, and structurally inconsistent three story arc.

Metal Gear Solid is ultimately a story all about a guy who finds out he has a really really shitty dad that is responsible for doing some really really shitty things and making life pretty awful for everyone, and now has to fix his shitty day's shitty shit and try not to die doing so.

A few weeks ago DICE dropped a pretty manage balance pass update for Battlefield 6 and my personal experience is that every match since has been amongst the worst I've played. Anecdotal and confirmation bias maybe, but matches seem more unbalanced than ever, and TTD is at its most absurd.

What are we doing?

I think Capcom has a winner with Pragmata's character weight and control floatiness for the campaign, but it really falls apart in some of these challenges, that command pixel-perfect movement accuracy that the game absolutely does forgive. Most are fun, but pretty wide swing and miss for others.
