Part of the Civil Rights Movement was a dignity claim that when you are in public you have a right to be spoken to in a neutral manner. Hamilton v. Alabama. This service worker may hate to serve me Cinnabons, but it is part of her job to serve every customer in the same manner.

Rep. Magaziner: “You promised America that you would go after the worst of the worst…You don’t seem to know how to tell the difference between the good guys and the bad guys. Go after the terrorists, do not go after veterans, marines, children, and U.S. citizens.”

Burke was right about the nakedness and solitude of metaphysical abstraction. If there is any coherent critique of the left to be had in Burkean though it is that.

sorry but the greatest heritage of the western Christian world is Secular Multicultural Liberal Democracy, so if your “Christian” vision for “European culture” isn’t multicultural, multireligious, & liberal democratic, then those are European values (likely ethnonationalist ones) not Christian ones

Today is the anniversary of Karl Barth's death in 1968. Let us acknowledge his witness to the event of God's self-disclosure in Jesus Christ. “It is good and salutary for us to be limited, because it is the eternal, gracious God who limits us.” — Karl Barth, Church Dogmatics III.2, 137.

It’s truly incredible how much the wellness industry sells longevity supplements when the truth is if you want to live to 100 you need to stop drinking alcohol and eat mostly plants. lol

I don’t think democrats are going to be able to fix how thoroughly they are discredited on jobs and the economy in broad swaths of the country just by having a new narrow appeal on the cost of living.

The cost of living in a pluralistic society is dealing with contention over issues that you think are not only morally straightforward but also essential to your own morality. The cost is worth it.

Eternal God, in your realm no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, & there's no strength but the strength of love. So mightily spread abroad your Spirit, that all peoples may be gathered to the banner of the Prince of Peace, as your children; to you be dominion & glory, now & forever. Amen
