Let it be known that I love Christmas ornaments and have a whole tree worth of memories. Which does not appear until December 5 or so. Now is the time for china pumpkins and glass turkeys on the mantle. (Sparked by overwhelming guilt for buying cute Christmas cards yesterday).

Perfect October day so I headed to Haunted Burrow Books, a Seattle bookstore specializing in horror. Signed copies of the Nightmare Quest of April May and Arcane Gamble of Harvey Walters from @aconytebooks.bsky.social. Look for them in the local authors bookcase. Perfect bookstore for Halloween.

My book collecting white whale has been the silent movie edition of Phantom of the Opera. Found an online copy listed as « acceptable » but no mention of illustrations. But under $30! So I ordered it. It has all 4 b/w stills and both double page color spreads! Halloween treat!

Harvey's day has come! But will Arkham survive the flood, the growing shadow, and a trio of wicked women out to grab all the occult power that they can steal? Obviously the professor needs a plan and few allies...and a lucky throw of the dice.

I picked up a number of reference books connected to the history of Photoplays (yay for Interlibrary Loans!). While these are for research, it is adding considerably to my shopping list. Because the books come illustrated with pretty, pretty pictures of Photoplays.

The 1968 novel by Alexander Key is similar but also quite different from the movie adaptation (gosh!). Several "psychic aliens live among us" books were popular in the 1960s and early 1970s. I remember hunting out paperbacks of Zenna Henderson's The People from used bookstores.
