The more I use AI “at work”, the more I come to understand that an AI can not love its work. Anything it produces is unloved, unlovable, and loveless. That’s great if you want analytical insights and data crunching. It’s terrible for anything supposedly “creative.”

I've been mired in building machine-learning models in... PHP for the last few days. I never thought I could pull this off, but it would appear I have a pretty accurate audience size prediction system using ridge regression on hand-collected data. Still fiddling with it, but it's working 🤯

I was informed at 6am that it was time to get started writing.

I bought 4 more books that I likely won't start reading for a few months. Send help.

Was just hanging out with family. Even though I have people who work in rather modern industries, nobody knew what Stripe was. Or Hacker News. Or Paddle. Or MicroConf. Or any of the podcasts I listen to. Or what my own podcast is about. I do enjoy getting that kind of perspective.

This is the development on top of the protocol that’s amazing to see. The fact that the Bluesky app is just *one* client on top of the protocol is a huge difference versus other social network: even Twitter. The dev ecosystem on top of the AT protocol is just getting started.

Not sure if this is petty or not, but we have construction workers in the house and they blast 80s rock radio in the basement — kinda feels like an invasion of privacy in my own home 🤣 Guess I’ll be going to paradise city then.

I just had a moment where I watched a video on YouTube, heard a phrase, and just was inspired to write an 800-word first draft for a really insightful article. Within minutes, it poured out of my fingers. These moments of flow are my drug. (And also the reason why I want to be a writer forever.)

Putting the follow button next to accounts that get re-skeeted into your timeline is low key a good feature

I am struggling pretty hard right now with a choice. I'm working on my third book, and I've been considering moving on from self-publishing (as I did with the first two) — but the world of traditional (and even hybrid) publishing is just so money-grabby. Anyone got experience with that move?

It's funny. I've thought a lot about platform risk ever since the Twitter takeover. It certainly is becoming shakier every day. And still, looking at the blank slate, I feel equally helpless. You can't really impact either the emergence or the decay of a network — other than just showing up.
