The calendar changed, so the new goals: get better in python, learn Emacs, write at least one paper, be a better husband and friend, mentor someone in 911 data analytics and data science, finish my level 5 in Toastmasters, write in my blog more, reach out more.

Debating how to outline the next presentation project. Ollama configuration is going to be the biggest challenge.

I found myself laughing ruefully this afternoon. I had applied to a position that a friend sent to me at a company he works for. I just got the thanks but no thanks email. Maybe because I don't have experience with dbt and Snowflake, but you'd think with 15 years experience and a PhD, I could learn.

The other idea I've been kicking around is updating my blog: drddatacience.com/blog talking about my dissertation. Many friends in the 911 community are interested, but the language is too academic and my data friends don't know as much about 911 centers and their data. Thoughts?

Been reading a new book on time series forecasting and I think I'm going to follow along with many of the techniques the author demonstrates because I've worked on some challenging data that I question how forecastable it is. Will make some posts about it in future

Getting ready to write a few blog posts about my experiences at NENA SBP and I want to start tailoring posts to 911 managers, data analysis, and 911 staff interested in statistics. Any of my followers here in those categories? If so, what do you want to know about the intersection of data and 911?

Had a great week in Clearwater at #NENA #SBP25 and the AI critical issues forum. I was able to discuss my passion, data science and analytics in 911 with many of my colleagues. Quite a few great opportunities may spring forth from this. I enjoyed finding my place in the industry.

I think I found a path out of a research conundrum. I'm hoping that I can find enough resources to teach myself advanced queuing theory in short order. Specifically, data-driven queuing theory.

Every so often, the universe gives me a reminder that I am good at what I do and that I really know a lot more than I think I do. That's not a bad thing.

Mixed feelings about someone with whom I interacted on LinkedIn today. Linked to a couple of papers suggesting LLMs aren't great for time series data, I agree. However, I take issue with running down data science PhDs in a Medium article.

I just received the electronic copy of my PhD diploma tonight. I'm incredibly stoked!!

Next projects, I think. Work, build a synthetic data set and evaluate more time series models. It's an extension of my dissertation, but it should be interesting. I'm also setting up an experiment for future presentations.

Ok, I'll bite. I've written a few posts but here's a quick intro: I'm a recent Ph.D. grad specializing in 911/112/999 systems and forecasting. My goal is to replace Erlang as a staffing algo for centres. I love sports, read anything, and am genuinely curious about everything. I want to learn

As a follow to that last whatever we call them here, it's 911 data and I'm thinking I'll probably grab some data and use it as a seed for synthetic data and use the synthetic for research. It's all call volumes, so it's very noisy and polystochastic.

My other idea is to take a dataset that's near to one from my dissertation, exploded in certain areas and do competitive multivariate forecasts using different techniques for practice and to see how well they all work. My employer will allow me to harvest the data to do this easily

Still getting used to this place. Working out what to do in my new personal site that I need to build. Resume CV finished for now. Should I build it in quarto or R markdown, etc. And do I pick up where I left off from my dissertation and play with my data some more?

So, since I want to start posting more and thinking about things, one of the things that got me started was reviewing a staffing model using Erlang-C and finding that it recommended we treble our staff. That's not realistic for any 911 centre, so I want to build a replacement that fits PSAPs better.

I'm enjoying connecting with so many data science, ML, data engineering, etc folks. Make me happy to come here and learn from y'all. I'll contribute what I know too when I can
