Since it's Spooky Month, I may as well post a drawing I did for the occasion a couple years back.

Accidentally saved that last little WIP after flattening the image. Took a couple days to relax, and now I'm back on it. It's somehow relaxing tracing over my own work, and I get to adjust the pose and anatomy.

Let this be a warning

Imagining alien physiology and anatomy is fun. Using convergent evolution as a model is also fun. If it works in nature, it's bound to be repeated. Trying to puzzle together an alien skeleton is very challenging for my brain. I'm having a lot of fun with this linework.

Oh yeah. I almost forgot. I've been playing with color dynamics to build shapes and shading as I go, and it's sped things up a whole lot for me. Still have a ways to go with this harpy, but she's coming along; or going it seems.

When I was working on my #paleoart of Confuciusornis I made this rough diagram of the wing to keep the numbers/arrangement of the feathers clear. It doesn't show individual bones but I hope it can still be helpful to other artists

i've actually got something for this. i've got a harpy girl and i wanted her to wear clothing, so i did A LOT of thinking of how should could put on her own clothing depending on the type of body build my harpies have(she has 1 thumb/finger on ehr wings). easy to put on stuffs

I finally figured out what I hated about the second pose, and fixed it. I kept treating the neck as the only way to rotate the head that I forgot that the first two vertebrae below the skull are built specifically for that. She can look down without having to contort her neck in some weird way

I have one character that I spend hours rapping my head around their anatomy; changing their design and shape to be more cohesive and appealing. Even made a couple rough 3D models as visual guides, and I still don't know how to draw them. MY OWN CHARACTER! It's the wings mostly, sometimes the face.
