House & Senate Dems told us they were fighting to add a provision in the CR to fix the frozen funding, but it didn't make the cut. Republicans have made no secret of targeting the expanded IRS funding from the IRA - an effort very likely to continue in 2025 under a GOP trifecta.

Leaving Ways and Means GOP lunch, Chairman Jason Smith says he has the support of House GOP taxwriters on his concerns about Thune’s plan for setting up tax to go in a second reconciliation bill next year. “100%. Do you think I’m out for a walk by myself?”

Senate GOP taxwriters leaving a meeting tonight were tight-lipped about what they discussed on next year’s tax fight. Tillis told reporters: “You know in the old days we were doing … the storming, forming, and norming. We’re in the storming phase now.”

“It’s been a continuous process — how do we do this and not draw attention to it?” Rep. David Joyce, who chairs the FSGG panel which writes the IRS’s annual budget (and is where this embedded clawback strategy was conceived), told Doug Sword. “We’ve obviously done a good job.”
