My phone just randomly showed this photo from several years ago when I was working at Goodwill in their e-commerce books and media warehouse and I sorted through a big batch of vintage pocket paperbacks. I just thought it was a neat pic and I wanted to share. That is all!

This book is wild in its dizzying use of language, not like anything I've ever read, which elevates what is already a compelling spear & sorcery tale. The characters are vivid. There's beauty in the brutal action and romance. Wilson sings and dances in the footsteps of Samuel R. Delany.

My mom wrote some definitions for this 1979 children's dictionary, and my paternal uncle was editor. (They used her maiden name in the credits to avoid accusations of nepotism, which is how I first learned of the concept of nepotism.) Oh cool, it's on archive dot org:

A great supernatural horror double feature.
@thorazos.bsky.social
's book is all simmering tension, while
@scumbelievable.bsky.social
's is more operatic in tone. Both get under the skin.

With CECOT being in the news, I want to repost this article my wife wrote about our adopted kids' birth father. He finished a prison sentence and was deported to El Salvador and landed in CECOT. If anyone can help with this, please contact me. We're feeling pretty helpless.

Contributor: A criminal conviction doesn't make an immigrant 'the worst of the worst'
Our children's birth father was a shining example of rehabilitation in California. Then he was deported to El Salvador, disappeared from the kids' lives.

Ana went to the eye specialist today, and we found out that the reason her pupils are always huge like this is that she has retinal atrophy and has lost most of her vision. It's irreversible, but it's unlikely to get any worse. And in other personal news today, I found out that my job is going away

The introduction to the Le Guin book was so good that I sought out its author's other work. I strongly suggest going into this one cold and getting swept up in what the story becomes.

A graphic novel about the intersection (or not) of Brutalist architecture, so-called progress, and revolutionary fervor in the capital of Albania. The feverish, scribbly art makes it surprisingly propulsive.
