Well, it has been A WEEK. The sitting president of the United States, Donald Trump, called for the destruction of an entire country. An entire civilization. I don't know how to express how horrific this is. The fact that he backed off from this (for now) does not make it ok. It does not make US ok.

I made a fancy lentil roll for supper tonight. Puff pastry from a box, but I made the filling (lentils, carrots, onions, celery, garlic and thyme) and assembled it. I want to fine tune the recipe a little for next time, but it was good enough that there WILL be a next time 😁

My husband suggested building an ADU in our small backyard and installing a putting green on its roof. I’m not convinced on the practicality of the plan. Though I do applaud the effort of balancing the need for more housing with his hobby, golf.

It’s easy to applaud when horrible people are attacking each other. As Sun Tzu wrote, when your enemies are making a mistake, don’t interrupt. But don’t for a minute let them get away with framing current circumstances as “the new Trump.” They always knew he was awful… He just wasn’t awful to them.

Editing documents makes it clear that I have strong opinions about subject-verb agreement and verb tense, but a limited ability to describe the rules. But technical writing HAS rules and they are particular and nuanced.

Today was an experiment, which seems appropriate. I decided to make tarte tatin because 1) it was in my new cookbook and 2) it would cook and cool in time to eat today. I have never made a tarte tatin. I may never have actually eaten one, but any combination of fruit and pastry is worth trying.

During the 1980s and 90s, I followed figure skating but then life got busy and I lost track. In the last couple of years, I’ve started watching again and am gradually learning the new scoring system and other changes that have taken place in the sport.

I’m watching the opening ceremonies now. So much drama! So over the top! There are dancers dressed to represent different Italian arts - music, painting, architecture…and coffee. Yes, there are dancing moka pots and I love it.
