Next book: Of Human Bondage. This is my first W. Somerset Maugham novel. I'm only 60 pages in but I am surprised at how tender he writes his characters, especially the orphan Philip. His prose is immaculate. He can convey incredible suffering or joy with even the shortest of sentences.

This isn't surprising but we need much better laws and enforcement of those laws when it comes to AI. There was a recent story of a highschool student who begged the school to do something about the boy turning her photos into AI porn and they did nothing. I think there should be fines similar to

The US ambassador wants us to honor our deal to buy 88 F-35 jets. Oh, so now agreements matter? I don't think we should buy them. He's framing this deal as a necessity to continue trade talks. Fuck'em. If we give into this, Trump will just demand more.

I give my daughter big props for how she's on top of her homework every week. I was never like that. I relied on the fact that I was just smart enough to procrastinate with homework and studying and throw something together at the last minute. She's not like that. She actually does the work.

My wife asked me last night if I wanted to go to her work Christmas party and I said yes. She just looked at me and said, "Really? You never want to go." This is untrue. It's just that usually they have no budget so there's never a +1. Still, I know I'll end up in the corner nursing a beer.

TX filing at SCOTUS will presumably focus on whether it is too close to the election season for courts to intervene, but the lower court addressed that, saying that if an injunction wasn't imposed it would "incentivize" states to delay before making big changes so there's no time to litigate.
