Very good day at AdventureX. Saw several games that looked delightful, had some laughs, met some people I expected to meet, some I absolutely did not expect to meet, saw more than one person who I hadn't seen in years, one who I wouldn't have predicted running into if you'd given me 1000 guesses

It would be misleading for me to say time hasn't been kind to my view of Expedition 33 but it's also slightly true. Misleading because I still think it's fantastic, but true because I've had a lot of time to digest its final hours and I'm more sure than ever that I just don't think they work for me.

Still deep in Q-UP. Which I keep hearing people call a clicker or an idle game but I don't see how it's either. In my mind an idle game is one where you fiddle with things while waiting for some resource to fill up enough to do some other things, but here if you just wait around nothing happens.

Today I have a work thing from midnight until 3am then I need to sleep for AdventureX tomorrow so in a slight change of schedule I will be having my evening in the afternoon and my morning in the evening

Verrrrmuch looking forward to AdventureX this weekend. I went to an early one of these I wanna say over a decade ago and it was nice, but fairly small back then.

The metaphor of putting one's eggs in one basket makes intuitive sense but if you think about it nobody is going around with two egg baskets.

Coffee break thought: it seems like a term has been settled on for games where the goal is, in some sense to make the number get big. But it's talked about like a genre, and I'm not sure it actually is. Because it seems to actually encompass a huge variety of mechanics.

Rolled credits on Q-UP after being obsessed with it all day. I'm not done playing, I want to do the other characters. I was truly impressed by how much it made me think about the build to break through the final wall. Also, without spoiling anything, there was something I enjoyed as a Baby Steps fan

Oh no, Q-UP is good. I'm susceptible to games where you make the number get big but I'm a bit more interested when there's more of a game around it, if it's just a clicker I'm a bit less invested. This somehow turns coin flipping into a deep build-crafting strategy game.

Lumines really is the only falling block game aside from Tetris I've ever put any serious time into so it getting the Tetris Effect treatment is honestly perfect. Very good so far!

Played a few more episodes of Dispatch today and continue to really love what they've done with it but also continue to be baffled why they are not letting this obviously bisexual main character follow his obviously bisexual dreams

This is the sort of thing I think of as the 'opportunity cost' of automation, and it holds not just for creative stuff but for everything. I've talked before about how a lot of my most appreciated work in support is when I am doing stuff that is beyond the scope of a bot searching a knowledgebase.

A comprehensive list of credits. ...I truly can't think of anything else that I'd say is true 100% of the time. Like, accessibility options - yes but depending on the type of game and what it needs that could mean wildly different things. A quit button? Sure, maybe.

I played the first two episodes of Dispatch and my first thought is I'm delighted, this is exactly the sort of thing that I hoped Telltale would eventually be capable of and it's great that it's doing so well. My second thought is that I would like this story to be 1000% gayer please

The thing is I have a soft spot for baseball and I'm a night owl so every so often I will be on this app at 4 am (a bit too late even for me) and some exciting thing will be going on and I think "oh I should start following it for real" then I remember all the exciting things are happening at 4am

I played most of Silksong (I think I'm very close to the 'normal' ending), and enjoyed about 75% of what I played. But at some point I just... stopped and the idea of not playing it any more fills me with such immense peace that I think it's done.

I'm giving the Final Fantasy Tactics remake a go (I've played a tiny bit before, a long time ago so this is basically all new to me) and have some early thoughts:

It does track with the thought I've had (and presumably others have) that they seem to operate in a similar way to dream logic. And yes, there's *something* interesting about that but I'm not sure it's a something that's worth completely redesigning society around

My background viewing for this week is streamers playing Keeper and after so long with it you don't really know how everyone else will respond and it's so good to see people getting it and immediately connecting in the way we hoped

Just finished Baby Steps. Perfect game. Perfect ending. Perhaps one of my favourite games ever.

On the mountain analogy: I think in reality, no two people are ever climbing the same mountain. A pro mountain climber and a toddler are not really climbing the same mountain, even if they literally are. So as an ideal, it's unattainable. That said Baby Steps is a masterpiece and this piece is great

As someone with experience doing ESRB submissions for games, I desperately want to see the ESRB submission for Baby Steps.
