Funding gaps have led to shutdowns since 1980. Since 1990 all funding gaps lasting longer than a few hours have led to a shutdown. Besides the current one, there have been 10 funding gaps have led to federal employees being furloughed.

The government is officially shut down. Make no mistake: Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. This is THEIR shutdown. They had every tool to govern and chose chaos instead. The American people are the ones paying the price.

Some basic principles: Don’t politicize the military. Don’t encourage them to act lawlessly. Don’t deploy them in America to attack American citizens. Act honorably. We should hope our well-trained military leaders listened to Hegseth & Trump and decided they’ll dutifully serve the Constitution.
