This is hanging behind the judge in General District Court today. I find this utterly terrifying. How is this acceptable?

Really not appreciating the part where ICE keeps showing up to the courthouse where I handle appointed cases. There was a protest about it today, but I'm not sure what that achieves. Most of the jails are actively cooperating with the round up of innocent (unless proven guilty) people to "deport".

Since this is in the news again, why you shouldn’t talk to cops: Talk to them 3 times, first time “I stopped at the store and picked up cupcakes”, 2nd you say cakes, 3rd you say dessert. Now you keep “changing your story” and that can be used against you. That you told the truth is no protection.

Lately, it seems like when I get a response to a motion from the prosecutor's office, it feels like they really just did not read what I submitted. Which was short, to the point, and straightforward. And instead I get something where I have to go reread what I filed, because I feel crazy. #lawsky

I really wish Google would stop telling people how legal cases "usually go". Every single state is different, and federal is its own thing. I can't change venue in a criminal case absent 1) proof that the crime actually happened somewhere else or 2) proof a fair jury is impossible in the district.

Dr. Oz, in his committee hearing to head Medicare and Medicaid, called maintaining good health a “patriotic duty”. This is the kind of language used to justify doing terrible things to disabled people, and deserves some scrutiny. This from the man who would control disabled people’s access to care.

Everyone should be screaming like this! More of this, now please!

Every time a client thinks their disabled, mentally ill or sick loved one is the only one the jail is neglecting, or that the prosecutor is treating their case uniquely by seeming to think their loved one's freedom and well-being doesn't matter just highlights for me how much we've all been lied to.

This honestly is good advice for attorneys right now too. Remember to take care of yourselves. We are all feeling overwhelmed watching anxioulsy to see if the legal system is going to survive this. But you can't watch it every second, you go mad at the best of times. These are not those times.

Just re-upping previous offers to handle protest-related cases in Richmond area courts on a sliding scale (at my discretion) based on need and the cause being protested. Our firm's number is on our website and was chosen to be easily memorized for those unable to access a contact's list.

I swear, one more person tells me I am paranoid, overreacting, or under educated when I say that we are all in really big trouble and I may just go fully mad. I wasn’t paranoid or overreacting in 2016. It wasn’t catastrophizing about abortion, rights, or about the education system, and it isn’t now.

Came down with COVID-19 for the first time on January 20, testing positive January 21. This seems oddly appropriate. It does mean I have missed some of the house on fire problem, but I don’t actually think I’m missing anything as it can more or less be summed up as everything is on fire.

This apparently is only minors but I’m disappointed. Their medical staff knows better.

I really just want a trial where I lose because the police and the prosecutors did a very good job, and just got it right. But even most of the pleas are because it is a guaranteed outcome, and not necessarily because the state can prove their case. It's exhausting.

I pay a fortune for the best possible health plan BCBS offers to small businesses. Since Oct, they have decided I didn't need PT for my spine surgery. I've been trying to find out why. So today I spent an hour and a half of time on the phone with them and was promised a return call with info/update.

Playing catch up with work is definitely never ending. I had a jury trial set for a little over a month after my surgery. When I came back to work and got a sense of how slow my recovery would be, I got the prosecutor to agree to continue and was waiting on a date. Toay, they filed an objection...

Back to work one week after major surgery on my spine. Because every system in this country regarding necessities is completely screwed up. Also, that was my first week off in 3 years. But I am back to work and somehow accomplishing things.

The overturning of Roe v Wade is the most successful terrorist movement in the USA in my lifetime. Firebombings, assassinations, harassment and death threats, coupled with rigid party discipline, have brought about a prohibition more horrible than the 18th Amendment.

The only difference between "terrorism" and "rebellion" is how we feel about the people rebelling against the thing. During the US Revolution, we had some of the first guerilla warriors doing raids on towns and using scare tactics and it is considered brilliant tactics. Just some food for thought.

I'd really love to see one of these 'how to get out of debt' advisors seriously take on the issue of chronic health costs, between high insurance premiums, high copays, all the stuff the insurance simply denies, medications... It isn't a manner of not paying down the debt, it's the revolving door.
