Back in 2005 I was in a startup where we were creating games for mobile. Back then it was tricky: can't use fp math, 64kb max size, needs to work on 600+ various devices, processor runs on 3mhz, crazy input schemes, etc This was one of the games I made. (Dan Parks was a colleague (not a sporter) 😃)

changed my mind and finished one more level for the night. that bomb puzzle was a lot of fun, i enjoyed dodging the bombs while figuring out how to get them into the barrels. platforming continues to be challenging but fair (besides one troll) and exploration for dark diamonds is still engaging.

last year i was hired by the opera gx team to make a few games for them, this one is by far the one im most proud of sadly though, it never got properly released. maybe i should get in talks with them again and develop it further 🤔 #gamedev

In 1992 (the year Hoi was published), Team Hoi made the first advergame in the Netherlands, featured in a 75-second Calvé peanut-butter TV commercial. Subsequently, kids could win their height in stacked peanutbutter jars by playing the game in a Dutch children's TV show called Telekids. 🙂

Friendly reminder to other retro devs: please open source code if you are able!!! It actually rules for preservation and for random people to do fun stuff with it like port it to Sega Dreamcast, or implement Big Head Mode, or add co-op with playable sidekick Hoi...

If you haven't been keeping up with all of this since the original funny Moon Child video took off because of the soundtrack, it's turned into such an incredible story of game preservation. The original dev team has been open-sourcing their games and tools and showing so much of the history

As promised: the tool we made to help convert Hoi! from Amiga assembly code to portable C code. The original Hoi! assembly files are included to prove it's working. bitbucket.org/rhinoid/conv... We hope it will help other Amiga devs to revive their old games and breathe new life into them. 💚

In the release of Hoi I've added a small utility that converts the 'raw binary Amiga format' of the images used in the game, back to a format that can be read by a paint program (and back again). Although rough, it opens up a path for modding & tweaking gfx in Hoi (still very tricky to do!) 🙏
