Having taken a look at the Curriculum and Assessment Review, I’m feeling more reassured than I was with the titbits leaked in advance to the press. I haven’t read every bit of it yet, but here are a few things I’m pleased about and a few things that worry me (definitely not comprehensive)…

Subjects: - Threat to MFL from removal of EBacc. This is very precarious and needs strong protection. - Will offer of Triple Science for all actually lead to greater equity or just mean lower grades for some?

71. I was delighted to get my hands on this! A book I really wish I'd had access to as a young history teacher. Extremely thorough and in-depth but I also loved the scenarios and practical lesson/scheme exemplars. Excellent read.

Among the many horrific things I have heard recently - I just discovered that Oak National has an AI lesson planning tool. But my absolute favourite bits are that a) it gets stuff wrong b) it suggests hilariously bad tasks and c) it's literally no help unless you already know the history

1. A story. Please read. Reposts hugely appreciated on this. You'll see why in a bit. I was born in Pakistan and lived there until I was 4. My parents worked there as doctors. While we were there we were very close to a couple called Christine and Mike Miles.

I don't read many edu-books these days but this one was worth making an exception for. An excellent primer condensing lots of writing and discourse in the subject community. Strongly recommended, especially to History ITTs, teachers who didn't get much quality subject input in training and new HoDs.

Find this really interesting. Feel like there is a gap for training senior leaders on the methods we can use to generate data and which are appropriate/how to use them well

This feedback isn't surprising, but I think there's a risk that it will be seen as a solution to extend the time or cut the content a bit. I don't see that as a viable route to reliability. Instead Ofsted needs to grapple with the underlying causes of unreliability embedded in the framework itself.

Can't believe I've only just found out about era.org.uk! Such a treasure trove of recorded material for teachers as originally broadcast without Youtube ads. And being able to request new material is brilliant! I requested something yesterday and they put it up in about 24 hours!

Reading should be a pleasure in each subject. So build it in, don't bolt it on. Let the scholarship used to design the lessons ooze through, in its cadences, rhythms & latent questions. And climb in thro well-crafted text: don't introduce knowledge as tidy, generalised facts. Publication in June...
