There are days when you never notice the degree at which life overlaps. And then there are days when you hear about the frog in the pot of hot water from two separate, disconnected places. Life remains weird.

The single best thing I've been able to do for my writing, was finding a small group of fellow writers to sprint with. The body doubling is everything for accountability.

Works in translation provide possibilities for wider understanding. For stories and readers to meet in places where once there were only barriers. A few days left to support this translation project! Book 3 is not yet funded, let's get it going:

IT'S CALLED THE BOOTS THEORY OF ECONOMICS AND IT WAS MADE UP BY THIS GUY CALLED SAM VIMES WHO THOUGHT THE REASON POOR PEOPLE STAY POOR IS BECAUSE THEY CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY THINGS THAT LAST A LONG TIME SO THEY HAVE TO BUY CHEAP THINGS THAT WEAR OUT FASTER MEANING THEY PAY MORE OVER THE SAME PERIOD FOR

To all my fellow creatives who have managed to actually make something this year: I'm so proud of you. Your paintings, your comics, your stories, your streams, your jewelry, your knitting—incredible! In a world full of destruction and death, creating is hope and rebellion. Don't forget that.

Question for the class (or maybe the writers themselves): do you think mystery authors try and keep us guessing or are they pleased as punch if a reader figures it out? Asking as someone who likes trying to outsmart people but rarely does.

It's been a crazy few months of moving but the dust has finally begun to settle (yes, I think we brought it with us...) and it's time to start writing again. Step one: factoring in writing time back onto my calendar.

We're finally in the process of packing and moving into the new house and my brain is INFURIATED by the randomly shaped/length of objects that don't fit into "normal" boxes. And if that's not an accurate representation of my whole personality, I don't know what is.

It's usually the motivation I need to sit down and start working on the next thing (or submitting elsewhere.) I know it's not personal. I don't enjoy every flavor of tea and my work's not everyone's cuppa.

There are moments of self-awareness when I'm procrastinating working on my own project by playing/reading someone else's work. So dear world, I'm gonna need you to keep creating extraordinary things so I can procrastinate forever.

Four years after moving across the country, I've finally found a way to make friends offline. I just finished my first book club meeting at one of the local bookstores and it was so fun. Good conversation without being overly pretentious. 10/10 would recommend.

Sometimes an "argument" with my partner (nothing serious) ends with him farting in my general direction and me stating that his defense was "long winded and lacking substance", and then we both laugh at our ridiculousness.

One art I could never attempt is glassblowing. 1) I'm terrified of fire/getting burned. 2) The way they twirl and throw around molten glass like nbd... and then the amount the glass will inevitably break - ANXIETY INDUCING. But man is it a pretty art form to watch.

Nothing reminds me that my partner is a high school educator more than on school holidays, he comes to check on me every 45-60 minutes. All that's missing the class bell to signal he's on his way. I don't even think he realizes he misses the little micro socializing he gets with his coworkers.

People who belittle folks for enjoying games and books and creative pursuits confuse me. Like, what's the alternative? Raw dogging reality? No thank you. I'll leave you to your miserable existence. I'm too busy chasing dragons.

Fascism hates empathy, compassion, & especially joy birthed by human creativity. When we make, share, & experience art it sparks + preserves + spreads joy. Art (and joy) are revolutionary acts - as we make it, as we are moved by it, & as we celebrate our collective humanity when we connect with it

I think, starting next week, I'm going to start replacing scrolling with playing solo TTRPGs. I have so many saved and from bundles, I need to start setting aside time to try them out 👀

I've been struggling with moving my body in a way that promotes good health and feels good. Today I decided to go on a walk to get my step goal but I made it about books a writing. It's the way I'm going to use my audio book hours + use it to brainstorm my own writing away from my computer.

Took the week off to go see a show in Seattle, got snowed in at home, ended up sleeping for most of it. Can't remember what day of the week it is, let alone the year. It was almost nice until I looked at the headlines and remembered we live in a dystopic society again.
